It was raining cats and dogs the whole day. Then it turned into snow late at the evening. It stopped a few minutes ago though. Snow in mid-November!!! That's a little early. Brrr....

Cats and dogs are heavy enough, but imagine if it started to rain cows and horses?

Believe me, I'm just as amazed as you might be. I don't recall having snow this early in the year ever. Maybe in late December and through January, but never mid November. It snowed for a good three hours. Then turned into sleet and then again rain. Therefore there's no snow on the ground right now. But if sky clears out I'm sure we can enjoy the scene of white mountains.

But boy it was really raining cats and dogs the whole day. At least it felt like it.

You need to spend a little time with a good woman...or better yet, a bad one.

You're right. I spent a lot of time with a good woman over the Summer, and that didn't work out too well. I think it's time to move on to the bad ones.

Then you'd be eaten alive by a woman.

Obsession is a glorious thing indeed. It numbs the soul to remind itself that it lives.

For me, this is one of the things that make Autumn worthwhile. Never understood why this fruit is so expensive in the US.

Now I can enjoy more of it.

Mmmmm pomegranate!! I love it! It's one of my favorite fruits.
Luckily it's not expensive for me... we have a tree in the backyard full of it!

That looks like a good one, too, Afs... nice and dark. I don't like when it's too light, then it has no taste.

I absolutely love the taste of pomegranate, but I do not like the seeds. Do you get seedless varieties commonly?

You've got a tree in your backyard? Man I should give you a visit! I wonder how much is a pomegranate worth in California, because in Alabama, all of it were coming from California anyway. Five to seven bucks each. I was like, you've got to be kidding me!! Nevertheless, I spent a fortune on them while I was there.

As for this one, it was so good that I had to take a picture of it half way through eating it. I too like them when they are dark and big.

Seedless pomegranate? Never seen one in my whole life. And I'm serious about my love toward this fruit. You'd love its juice, that's the best way to get rid of seeds.

I had heard of seedless pomegranate, but had never seen one. Some googling reveals that the so called 'seedless' ones do have seeds, but are very soft. Some serious research needs to be done in genetic engineering to fix this problem More funds should be diverted from genetically modified mice etc. towards making seedless pomegranates.

I agree, we should start a Pomegranate Seed Research Foundation, and campaign for people to donate to it. I had never heard of a seedless pomegranate, nor had I heard of that softer seed. I should try to find one sometime.

I personally usually spit out the seeds, although I think everyone else just eats it with the seeds and all. How do you guys eat it, svsg and Afs?

Oh, and by the way Afs, of course you're welcome any time to come over, we'll eat them together. Five to seven bucks!? That's a lot... I know they're expensive here too, but I don't think they're that much. The trick is, I think, to go to an ethnic produce store, not just a regular supermarket. I think they're cheaper (and better!) at those places.

I have not had one, having come to US. Back home my mother would insist on me to eat the seeds as well, as they are apparently nutritious

A pomegranate club? Count me in!

I spit the seeds most of the time as well, saves for a spoon or two, just to make sure I'm not missing on something useful. You know, just as those dark grape seeds that have been proven to reduce bad cholesterol. My personal experiences tell me that chewing seeds can cure diarrhea.

When I was a kid I used to try a fun method for getting a pomegranate's juice. This method should be only tried outside the house while wearing clothes you don't care much for in case of a failure in the process. Pick a soft skinned one that has no spot likely to ooze. Wrap an old towel around it and carefully and slowly roll while you press it down to a hard surface. When its inside feels all mushy, make a hole on the skin and suck the juice.

One of the things that bug me about this fruit is that if you don't wear gloves and touch the skin with bare hands, your hands could turn all black. Well... a small price to pay for having a delicious fruit.

Zia, thanks! California is a different story, because of its ethnic diversity but I never recall having seen pomegranates in ethnic produce stores in Alabama. People for the most part had no idea what it is called and even more amazed to see the price. I remember one time after having made myself ready to pay a hefty price on my groceries, which included five pomegranates, I had to double check the receipt to make sure if everything was all right, since I paid less than I expected. Turned out the check out boy had assumed that five of them was for $5, and when I got back and told him that he has made a mistake, he was like are you insane to buy these or what?!!

The problem I have with pomegranates is the cowardly civilised way in which they are eaten...with a fork, or a pin, or something. I tend to burst the thing open, biting a multitude of parts at the same time, spitting the seeds out upon the table or ground and sucking up the juices from my cupped palm, thence wiping the backhand across my cheek.

Long live Capo the Barbarian.
