I found this photo, which is of me and my mom in Sicily (I'm in the jeans). I believe it was taken in 1975. This is my family's farm. There's a small house on the farm, where my grandfather's brother once hid Salvatore Giuliano when the police were looking for him.

Simply awesome SB. Such beauty and history. Can we all take a plane there for a gangster reunion? Your mom seems like the kind of woman you'd just want to sit back with a nice glass of wine and hear her talk about the good times.

Thanks, Beth. My mom just celebrated her 80th birthday, and she is one of the coolest women I know. Looking at that photo, I realize that she was only a few years older than I am now when it was taken. Unbelievable!!

Sicily is one of the most beautiful places on earth. I'm sorry that the quality of the photo isn't a bit better because those mountains that you can barely make out in the background are just breathtaking.

SB, Sicily looks beautiful. I would love to visit with my parents. They've been there a couple times. The apartment building that my father was born in, in Trapani is still there (well, as of 10/15 yrs ago). I'd love to just stand in front of it with my father. Although, at nearly 87, I don't think he'd travel that far anymore.

TIS, Sicily is really incredibly beautiful. You should definitely make it. The biggest hassle to traveling to Sicily is that you have to change planes in either Milan or Rome. However, there's an Italian airline (not Alitalia) that now flies direct, although I don't know if they do it from the West Coast. http://www.euroflyusa.com Check them out. By the way, we took my grandmother when she was in her 80's. She was climbing ladders and picking peaches. When we yelled at her that she was going to fall, she picked up a handful of soil and said, This is my earth. It will never hurt me. I was amazed that after all those years, she still felt such a connection.
