Man, I'd hate to live in Boston right about now (or after the 2004 season). Now Curt "I can't keep my foot outta my mouth because I'm such a prima donna" Schilling has decided he DOES want to pitch for another year. Roger Clemens anyone? Good grief, just retire already douche bag!

Nosferatu is old. The Never Ending Story is like a zit at the tip of Old's nose.

LLC, that reminds me of all those girls I used to know in high school, who's range of "old movies" were in the late 1970s. Before that time? "Ancient."

And people wonder why I have a special soft spot of despisement for GREASE....

Yeah... To me, "old" is anything prior to 1960. I don't think I've ever refered to a film as "ancient" but if I did, I'd at least set the bar at 1920.

Kids these days.

Shut up and get off my lawn. I need to go shave, pay the bills, feed the kids, wash my car...

I'm 16. 17 in about two months.

I was just looking over some of my Martin Scorsese DVD's and see there's no commentary for The Departed. Why is that? There's commentary for Goodfellas, Casino, Raging Bull and even some of his more recent movies such as Gangs of New York and The Aviator.

Well, Mister, you even remember that Scorsese's "commentary" for GOODFELLAS and even CASINO was scattered far and wide, edited into comments of other participants?

Besides, Scorsese was too busy. It happens.

And they probably plan on releasing a superior transfer with more features in 6-12 months for ten bucks more than the original release...

You think so? I don't know, Warner Bros. is good about releasing both versions at the same time (hence the separate single and double disc versions). Now if this were Fox, then absolutely. That's why I'm not buying Borat when it first comes out because I guarantee a double dip. DEATH TO FOX! Universal is bad too (2-disc "special edition" 40-Year-Old Virigin in May). WTF?

I wouldn't doubt it, but I wouldn't set it in stone. With a name like Scorsese, they don't really need to space out releases to make money, but who knows.

Universal is pretty bad. Is it just me, or have there been about eight different Scarface releases in the past two months? I came across the new one while strolling through the store towards the end of last year, and it seems like basically the same thing with a few minimal changes and an inferior packaging design.

I know and I hate it. I don't buy Fox DVD's hardly anymore. They are so tight lipped about their special editions that now I can almost predict them. I KNEW they'd re-release Mr. and Mrs. Smith and even though I didn't buy it, I knew it'd come out. Same with Borat. Yes, I hate Universal and Fox the most! Warner Bros. is my favorite DVD company (other than Criterion of course)

Wal-Mart and Best Buy are giving away Borat T-Shirt's when you purchase the DVD. That's another way Fox gets you to buy the first release. Not me, I can live without it.

I got my copy from Target. They had an exclusive set that included the 2-Disc Special Edition, plus a copy of the original script.

Got this for 10 bucks at the Virgin Mega Store in Orange County:

Great film (much better than Hannibal...and I thought Hannibal was pretty good.)

Yeah XDCX, I'd rank them:

1) Red Dragon
2) Silence of the Lambs
3) Hannibal Rising
4) Hannibal

For me, Silence of the Lambs is the best of the series. Anthony Hopkins is chilling as Dr. Hannibal Lecter. His performance will haunt you for days after your first time watching it.

Even after subsequent viewings, I still get chills. He came EXTREMELY close to capturing that same persona in Red Dragon....but Silence gets the nod from me.

I haven't seen Hannibal Rising yet, but I have read the book. The book was pretty good (not great, though). It is intriguing, however, discovering how Hannibal Lecter actually became the monster that we all know and (in a sick way) kind of love.

The reason why people dig Hannibal Lecter is because he's a slick smart evil bastard.

Trust me, people in general admire ingenuity, even while he's going to lunch on you.

SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, whatever its the best movie of 1990 is up for debate, but its a very good piece of thriller-entertainment. Too bad that Ted Levine got typecasted for more than a decade as a crazy-ass psychopath. Luckily, he's rehabbed his career with solid work on MONK as police Captain Stottlemyer.

Now HANNIBAL, is a situation where the script is a mess. Of course, I thought the book itself was a mess, which means trying to script a movie out of a wreck of a book is almost a losing proposition.

However, Ridley Scott's direction is superb as always, and he gets decent dramatic jobs from Ray Liotta and the uncredited Gary Oldman. Besides, the ending shot of the movie is just damn evil...

I'm surprised nobody has talked about MANHUNTER, Michael Mann's 1986 adaptation of RED DRAGON. Interesting.

SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1990) - ****
HANNIBAL (2001) - ***
MANHUNTER (1986) - **1/2
RED DRAGON (2002) - **1/2

How can you not enjoy a movie that has both Edward Norton and Anthony Hopkins?

X, I got Hannibal Rising from the library today. I'll let you know what I think.
