The reason to put a max innings pitched for starting pitching is because of Yahoo fails to put a 162-start limit on pitching like they do everyday players. There may not be a max innings limit in MLB, but this number is finite (roughly 162 games x 9 innings + an allowance for extra inning games).

If we had no innings pitched limit (which Yahoo keeps track of automatically) or games started limit (which Plaw kept track of manually), we are opening the door to manipulation (i.e. somebody can be on the waiver wires everyday to make sure they maximize their innings pitched, which gives them the most opportunity to gain (or lose) points).

Placing a limit closes the door for this type of manipulation. Admittedly, a 162 games started limit is preferable (which is why Plaw did what he did), but since Yahoo doesn't allow for it, the max innings pitched limit is the only remaining option.

Just curious - how would putting a reasonable max limit on innings pitched lessen your enjoyment? If the limit is ridiculous, I can see what you're saying but what if the limit was reasonable (i.e. MLB average)?
