I've been meaning to ask that myself... where do we stand on that stuff? \:D

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

Well, here's how I feel one final time. ;\)
"Saves" need a net value of more than 2, and "Save Opportunities" should be less than -8.

We don't need 5 active relief pitchers everyday. 3 or 4 is more than enough.

Stolen Bases should be worth 2 points, so speed will have some value in this game.

I agree with the stolen bases being worth two. There is a lot less speed in the league than power, and giving a stolen base two points gives different players value rather than just relying on the power guys. It gives guys like Juan Pierre and Dave Roberts, guys who hit very few home runs, value because they are good at what they do. Lots of little hits, then stealing bases.

If a guy is known for getting an infield+ hit then stealing a bag, that basically equals one point for the hit, and one point for the steal right? Similar to a guy hitting a double. But people forget that someone who can steal bases disrupts the pitcher, therefore leading to runs scored because the pitcher is taking some of his attention away from the hitter and focusing on the runner. Guys that can successfully do that are rare and deserve more respect in my opinion.

Not to mention we subtract for getting caught stealing. Maybe this is a bad argument, but power hitters aren't docked for fly outs. I know that's ridiculous, but I guess I just want to give some more credibility to guys who play the game of speed rather than power.

I also feel that we have too many relief pitchers, but don't necessarily feel as strongly about that. If we decide to have 5 then I will take that as part of the strategy.

Okay, valid points...

I'll change SB from +1 to +2
I'll leave CS at -1

As for Saves, right now it's +8 for a Save, and -6 for the opportunity. So a Save is worth +2, and a botched save is -6. A W is +7 and an L is -6. So a BS/L comes out to -12. (To explain the confusion: Yahoo doesn't have a BS modifier for some reason, that's why assigning a negative value from the outset is necessary, to build that penalty in.)

I don't want to increase the value of a Save too much, because we still need non-closers to have some value. Would a net of +3 be enough for a Save? That is, -5 for the opportunity?

I've added Sac Flies, and assigned it +1.

As for # of RPs, I'm still uncertain that lowering it from 5 would make any difference. There's no guarantee any will pitch on any given day, so there really isn't much one can do, strategy wise, in that regard. Final thoughts on that?

I'm also with the No Max Innings Pitched camp, so haven't changed that. I will monitor the 162 game max for SPs at the end of the season.

Okay, so did I miss anything? Thoughts?

Everything you suggest is an improvement from last year. I still think 5 RP per day is excessive, but nobody else has any opinion so it's not a big deal. I'll draft accordingly.

I've already said I'm fine with 5 RP. I didn't have any trouble with it last season.

now, in my humble opinion, giving that much value for a SB just a few days before the draft is not a good idea. it will have a big impact in the game. (e.g. : Jose Reyes might become the ultimate no. 1 pick) and that comes from the guy who leaded the league in SB last year. anyway, if that's what the most of us decide, it's not that big of a deal.

One extra point for a SB is not a lot. As it was pointed out earlier, with the old scoring system, a guy that hits .240 with
25 HR's and 70 RBI's is more valuable than a guy that hits .310 with 50 SB's and a couple of HR's.

I care - but there's nothing we can do about it; it's randomly determined 30 mins before the draft starts... ;\)

Which, incidentally, is TOMORROW! \:o

I don't know if they've changed it, but in the past, the Commish had the ability to set the draft order.

Well, whattaya know! My paypal address is jgeoff@jgeoff.com -- whoever sends me the most within the next 12 hours picks their draft spot first, and down the line...... hurry, and don't donate too little!

I think random is fine. \:D

Okay, I've sent you a significant amount of.... er... 'things' through paypal. I'd like to 'randomly' be number 1 please.

Be careful what you wish for. I had the #1 pick last year and wasted it on A-Rod. I don't care where I pick. I'd just like to know.

Actually I was just being silly. In reality I would like the 6th or 7th pick. But I'll do my best with whatever pick I get. I think 30 minutes before the draft is enough time to form a strategy.

It might have been random, but we knew well in advance last year. PL tried to get me to trade the 1st pick.

From what I remember, I believe Plaw enlisted someone's help (SC? Turnbull?) to help randomize the draft order in advance.

I don't know about you guys but I'm excited \:D

I've only played in Rotisserie style Salary Cap games in the past, so I am looking forward to this live draft. Plus it's been a few years since I've played in a fantasy league at all.

I don't recall that.

If you want me to come up with a random draft order this afternoon, let me know. I could assign #s to each of us, and then have someone on the board give me a random order of #s and assign them that way.

It's not a big deal. I would like to know in advance so I can make a game plan, but I can wait. My girlfriend is going to kill me tonight. We're going out to dinner, and I'm going to have to explain why I want to be home by 7:30.

Also: Is it just me, or are the servers here really messed up today? They've been slow, and/or I've been getting constant time-outs.

Is it kosher to determine the draft order while the game is still accepting new teams? Or should I not worry about that, and just add any (unlikely, but possible) new teams to the end of the order? Or should I just lock it at 9 teams?

PS - Yeah, I've noticed the timeouts, too \:\/
