Trade Proposal

DB to trade:
Chipper Jones (3B)
Cole Hamels (SP)

JG to trade:
Miguel Cabrera (3B)
Player to be Named

Douche, I'm gonna have to say no to you, and I'll give you my reasons why... \:D Perhaps I'll regret passing on Cole Hamels, who looks sharp so far this year. But this is only his sophomore year and is unproven (to me - I had him last year). So while I would probably take a chance on Hamels under other circumstances: Chipper Jones for Miguel Cabrera? Cabrera and A-Rod are #1 and #2 right now overall this (young) season, so I'm not about to screw with that. Besides, I hate Chipper Jones. And, I'd have to drop one of my SPs to make room....

I really miss PL's "opinion" on everyone's trade proposals. \:\(

If anyone wants Prince Fielder, I will be taking offers. Also, Beltran is off the market. I think its wise to keep him. \:p

I'll never forget the "opinion" he gave me in a scathing pm when I traded Contreras to DB. He called me everything but a white woman. I think that's the first time he was genuinely pissed off at me.

So that's what, +3 the past two days? Can't beat that! \:D

But you can't knock yourself out on Thursdays -- at least this time of year, when most teams have off... no one scored 50, let alone 100+, tonight... ;\)

I'm not too worried yet. Some of the teams ahead of me will be out of starting SP games by July. Regardless, I need to get some positive pitching points.

Maybe I missed something somewhere in this 10 page thread, but you have made several comments about running out of starts by starting pitchers. In the rules it says that the 162 limit is for position players only, not pitchers. How am I going to run out of starts by July? What am I missing?

You missed something. There is an 162 game limit on SP, and will be monitored by the commish.

First off, it's still April... so all is not lost yet. But over a start per day isn't great this early... you want max points per start, of course... a little research can help w/ that...

You can count your SP starts here... or better yet, in StatTracker / Season Stats...

Relief pitchers have no limit, tho... so act accordingly.

This was discussed before, so, reviewing those 10 pages -- and those of previous seasons -- may help... ;\)

So are you saying that by clicking here all I have to do is add up my GS's? Because there is a starting pitcher I dropped that is not on that list, so it seems that if I am getting close to my max, I could just drop a pitcher or two, and still keep my best starters going, right? This whole idea of having you, J Geoff, keeping track of pitcher starts seems silly. I'll have to go back and re-read the last 10 pages or so. I'm sorry I'm bringing this up now, I just didn't realize...

The rules state: "Pitchers need to make three starts to become eligible as a starter" Will he be scored as a RP for the 1st 3 starts, or not get any credit as a SP?

Pitching stats will count wherever the guy is placed, SP or RP. If an RP makes a start, JG will count it towards the 162 game limit.

That means you can start Wainwright without hesitation. ;\)

Good pick, btw. \:\)

That's right DMC. JG will manually add up the starts your entire pitching staff makes. Once you reach 162, he will ask you nicely to bench all your starters.

If you don't, he will come over to your house and manhandle you. \:p

JG, is there anyway we could decide sooner rather than later on whether or not we are going to abandon the 162 game limit? I want to win but I'd rather not kill myself trying to figure who's starting every single day if I don't have to.

NOTHING is changing now. Those who actually paid any attention before the draft should be fine. The others, well.... it's no one else's fault, is it? ;\) Use the waiver wire accordingly...

My question though is how is JG going to add up the games started? For example if I pick up a pitcher later in the season that has made 15 starts, it's going to show 15 games started when you look at the season totals, even though he didn't actually make that many starts for my team. I'm going by the link that JG gave me HERE . Is there a screen that shows exactly how many games were started while on my starting roster?

Go to that link blibble. It only shows what points were earned while starting on your team. A player can have 400 ab's but only 4 while on your starting roster and it will show 4.

There's a link in Statracker that shows all the totals for your team. I ASSume our commish paid the $10 for it.

How many starts does a pitcher generally get each season? About 30 roughly? If one of my pitchers gets hurt, I'm obviously going to replace him with someone else, so let's just say 30 starts for each starting position. 30(starts) x 6(starters) = 180 games started on the year. I think 30 is even a low number if you make sure you get a starter replaced with another if he is injured. Is 162 even enough?

Or is it 162 starts per starting pitching spot? If that's the case then I think I'll be okay with my max 972 starts

StatTracker adds up all the stats, I don't have to add them. I just gotta remember to glance at in come August. (Or June in Blibble's case ) See: StatTracker > League Stats > Season (need to buy it after tomorrow)
As of right now, Game Starts range from only 7 for TM to a whopping 22 for BL. Everyone else is in the mid-teens.

PS - BJ Ryan is a piece of shit!! Almost totally whipped out Schilling's great start!

True, but they don't have 6 man rotations.

The option to have 6 pitchers active is at your own discretion.

I just think this whole idea of manually keeping track of stats is silly. If the millions of people playing fantasy baseball in various leagues thought that 162 max games for six pitchers was the way to go then it would be an option. We should have stuck with the max innings pitched. It makes more sense. But, seeing as how I'm probably screwed anyway this year, I'll go ahead and shut up about it.
