In the Godfather part II, did Roth have Michael killed because of Moe Green? Erm, Roth didn't have Micahel killed, Micheal if you remember survived all attempts on his life and died peacefully at the end of III. Roth always suspected Mike of having killed Moe, but Idon't think that the main factor in Roth's desire to see off Mike. Mike pretty much covered by saying that Roth did not want to see tihs young kid take over his operations and resented him. Also all the hassles with Frankie and The Rosato's would be a factor to. And Mike was also constantly stalling on their deal, so I guess Roth thought the best Mike was a dead Mike Also I've tried to follow the Godfather part III but I don't understand why Altobello and Luchese wanted Michael killed. Well, Altobello was working for Luchesi, Luchesi was involved in Immobliari and did not want the Corleone's taking over, he, the archbishop and the swiss banker fuck were all in it together, the whole swindle on Mike to get his millions for the Vatican bank and for their own pockets too no doubt. So after getting his money they then wanted him out of the way. Also did they have the newly elected Pope killed as well? And what new Pope was going to be elected that was not a friend to the Coleone family? The clergy that we see Michael having conversations with about the 700 million debt? The film suggests that the pope (Cardinal Lamberto) was poisoned by the Luchese family as the new pope looked set to ratify Mike's ownership of Immobliari. And as for the second part I don't get it? Lamberto wasn't really a friend to the Corleone's, Tommasino knew of him as a good man and recommended Mike talk to him about the whole swindle, the confession was unplanned. As for Archbishop Gilday, I don't think he was ever in the running to be pope but I won't pretend I know how the system works.

How do we know he was going to do that. All we saw in the film is that the new pope ratified Mike as Immobliari cheif

Watch the film again. You'll see shots of newspaper headlines saying : "John Paul I Outlines Administrative Overhaul – Vatican Bank Being Restructured: Secretary of State to Initiate Investigation Immediately." "New Pope Announces Investigation Into Vatican Bank Affairs: Calls for Meeting with Chief Accountant F. Keinszig.: Plus there is a conversation between Bishop Gilday and Lucchese that goes : "Lucchesi, will you please try and understand. I have phoned him. I have waited here by the phone. You would do well to remember, Mr. Lucchesi, that this Pope, has very, different ideas from the last one." That's how we know he was going to do that. Don Cardi

Fair point about the headlines. But as for the Archbishops comment, that did not confirm what the pope did or didnt say

While there was NO Corleone family in feal life, the Godfather, his sons, some of the characters and some of the events that take place in the trilogy ARE based on both real life mobsters and real life events. So there is nothing specifically said about the pope exposing the bank scandal, etc., but it is implied there. Perhaps you missed my post above : Originally posted by Don Cardi: Watch the film again. You'll see shots of newspaper headlines saying :
