Thanks DC. That should be good. I'm gonna try to catch it. \:\)

I didn't see Missouri Breaks or The Men, but did see the rest. I remember reading Teahouse Of The August Moon in literature class in high school. When the movie showed on tv, it was fun seeing it just after reading it. Haven't seen it since though. \:\/ What a different role for Brando hu?

You're welcomed TIS.

Yes, what a really different role for Brando in Teahouse. Way out of character. But his playing that part so well showed what an excellent actor the man really was.

Out of that list, my favorite is On The Waterfront. Just an oustanding acting job by Brando surrounded by such a great supporting cast.

I've never seen 'The Men' either. At least I don't remember seeing it. Have to set my DVR for that one.

Guys and Dolls is one of my all time favorite musicals. Just a fun and enjoyable movie with a sort of comedic spin on gangsters. Some real funny characters in that movie.

Young Brando is arguably the greatest charismatic force to have hit the entire film history of 116 years.

Yet which Brando do most people remember? The bloated, reclusive guy that got more press for buying islands, befriending pedophile pop stars, screwed-up kid, and other stuff.

A damn shame, but it could be worse. He could have been Orson Welles.

Welles was a fine actor in his own right.

Brando and Welles.... four wonderful actors!

OWTG,

I think that was the first movie I ever saw with Brando. It was on tv when I was young. I am a fan also of Streetcar and Waterfront as well. He was so damn "hot"!!!!! Along with GF of course, my favorite Brando movies. Guys & Dolls maybe would be next IMHO. I'd have to see a list of his movies to select after that, because I am sure I'm not remembering all of them. \:\)

Brando is my favorite actor of all time, and arguably the greatest.

My first Marlon Brando film was The Godfather. Since then, I've seen as many of his films as I could get my hands on (Waterfront, Streetcar, The Wild One, Last Tango, etc.)

My favorite of his roles is that of Terry Malloy in On the Waterfront. I've probably seen it a hundred times, and it never gets old.

Thanks for the heads-up, DC! \:\)

Some great info tonight about The Godfather!

But what about John Wayne having to be restrained from removing that little Indian lady while she was "accepting" Brando's Academy Award?

Geez, that just makes you wonder how many of our heroes are actually violent, rapist, child molesting, alcoholics.

Thank goodness for my friend SC. Last night I was watching the Hockey playoffs and totally forgot about this Brando special. Then in a PM, SC reminded me about it. But it was already an hour into the show!

Duh, I was the one who originated this post and then I forget to watch it?

Luckily TMC replayed it at 11:00PM. So I set my DVR to record it and I wound up watching about an hour of it. I've already set my DVR to record part two tonight.

Thanks again SC for reminding the originator of this topic that it was on.

DUH!

I watched part of the special last night. I never realizedhow demeaning Brando's father had been to him.

Shoot, I missed it too. \:\( I totally forgot about it.

Klydon, did they give a lot of info on his personal life? I know nothing about his father or family in general. He was always such a private person.

His father was presented as a guy, who always found fault in whatever his son would do. They showed an excerpt from an interview of both Brando and his father from the 1950s and the interviewer began by telling the elder Brando that he must be proud of his son, and the father replied, "As an actor, no. But as a mann, yes." He went on to say that his son was more disobedient than most boys, which obviously puzzled Marlon.

The father also blew a great deal of Branco's money in odd investments, about which he knew very little. Eventually, Marlon had some fights with his father, who was trying to control his life. They had a falling out, but I didn't watch the whole thing and don't know if there ever was a reconciliation.

I missed Part I of the documentary (), but caught Part II last night. ( \:\) )

I'm fairly certain that TCM will release a DVD of the documentary, so I'm not too awfully concerned about missing the first part.

This was a very good series. TCM excels in movie bios. This was one of their best. \:\)
Two points:
First, Brando was the most iconic actor of modern times. My example of "iconic" is "The Wild One." It's no better than a B-movie, but it's at the top of the list of everyone who writes about "influential movies of the Fifties." It's there because of his performance. As a kid when that movie hit the nabes, I will never, ever forget the impact. I was the only kid in my neighborhood who had a motorcycle jacket, and my "15 minutes of fame" was when every other kid in the theater begged me to lend them my jacket. Yee-hah!
Second: Did anyone notice that Pacino (in bad hair :p) said that he, not FFC, suggested Brando for the role of Vito Corleone? Uh...paging Harlan Lebo...

The best Brando imitation of the series was courtesy of Ed Begley Jr. But Anthony Hopkins (who didn't appear) is still the World Champion of Don Corleone Mimics!

I agree TB. It was an outstanding bio all around. Did anyone pick up what James Caan said about Paramount and how they NOW take credit for everything regarding The Godfather? Seems that almost every actor along with FFC walked away from making that movie with a bad taste in their mouths for Paramount.

Caan also gave high praise to Robert Duvall.

I loved it when Brando said that he had no idea what The Last Tango In Paris was about!

That's funny DC! You know that was the "only" Brando movie I actually walked out on. I couldn't even tell you this long after what it was about either. I just know I didn't like it enough to leave the theater. Maybe I'd have a different viewpoint now if I saw it all the way through. Although, it's never on tv is it?

TCM re-aired "Guys and Dolls" the other night. Its one of my favorite musicals and the Damon Runyon characters are pure joy. Despite the fact that Sinatra and Brando hated each other its pure fun to see them on the screen together.

Stubby Kaye's rendition of "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat" steals the movie!

One of my all time favorite Musicals.

And the names of the characters, Big Julie, Sky Masterson, Nathan Detroit, Benny South Street, Harry The Horse, Nicely Nicely. Hysterical.
