I think JG lost his mind, unless you believe Byrnes is going to continue to produce fantasy numbers like he has. Here's why I decided to go for it: #1 - I already have A-Rod at 3B, and Cabrera was used mostly for DH unless NYY wasn't playing #2 - I already have Jeter at SS, and Renteria was used for matchups or if NYY wasn't playing #3 - I lost faith in Chad Cordero -- he "closes" for Washington on top of it -- and I have more faith in Saito right now #4 - Lugo gives me a backup for 2B which I didn't have at all, as well as 3B/SS for those days NYY isn't playing #5 - Byrnes gives me a backup for CF which I didn't have at all #6 - 2007 numbers, so far, are somewhat in my favor. #7 - 2006 numbers are in his favor: Renteria and Byrnes were dead equal. Saito had almost 100 more pts than Cordero. I'm giving him 300 pts (Cabrera over Lugo) for reasons above and below #8 - He's in last place (right now), and importantly: Cabrera didn't go to someone I'm directly competing with (at this point). #9 - I believe it will help me, and he believes it will help him. The idea was his, without Renteria and Cordero: I only added them into the mix because I didn't want to simply put them on waivers, and figured he'd need a SS better than Furcal. Makes sense to me! We'll see how it works out.... (with my luck....)

You traded one of the top offensive players in all of baseball, to get two backups?? Why don't you read all my points above Cabrera and Reteria weren't my every day starters, believe it or not. I'm also getting a more reliable closer. Cordero ended up on my bench after a while - waiting for him to shape up. PS - Look at the guy in 6th giving #2 a hard time!

If you didn't tell me Cabrera wasn't available, I would have offered you a hell of a lot more than what you got. And why would I wanna help your team?

Why did you want to help his team? Cuz I'm confident I have a decent-sized lead over his team... as opposed to, say, yours. C'mon - you guys are making this seem like a LeBron-level debacle!

For those wondering about the now-mythical "LeBron" trade, here was PL's analysis of the trade near the end of the 2005-2006 season: Enjoy! ----------------------------- JG Gets: Ron Artest T.J. Ford Antoine Walker Nick Collison PL Gets: Lebron James Kyle Korver (cut immediately) Wally Szczerbiak (cut immediately) Speedy Claxton (cut immediately) This one has absolutely killed JG. Artest has missed a few games with injuries, and in the 8 games he played, he's scored only 93 FPs, averaging a mere 11.6 FPPG. Collison played twice, scored 11 FPs, averaged 5.5 FPPG, and was cut. Antoine Walker has played only twice also, scoring just 5 FPs and averaging 2.5 FPPG. (Edit: Cut by JG) And T.J. Ford started only one, scoring 9 FPs, and has now been traded back to PL in the recent Richard Jefferson deal. (Edit: Cut by JG) For PL, the trade has worked out great. Korver, Szczerbiak, and Claxton were all cut immediately (altho PL reacquired Szczerbiak later as a free agent, and he's been great), opening up roster spots for what turned out to be better free agent pickups. And James, the key man in the deal, has been exactly what PL expected and hoped for: 9 games, 259 FPs, and a 28.8 FPPG average. Even without yesterday's 54 - the highest FP total of the season so far - Lebron was still averaging a terrific 25.6 FPPG.

You have no idea how bad I wish I still had the PMs in which Plaw convinced me that that trade was a good idea!

No... I still have some PMs of his from around that time, and others from 2001 even -- just not that one...

I sure hope Lincecum will be this year's Liriano (without the season-ending injury). What are you hearing out there, BL? I hear he is as dominating as possible in triple-A. We will see how he does on Sunday against a major league team.

First off... I don't get this... When a trade is accepted by both parties, it says something like "trade will go into effect in x number of days"... Fine... but, as commish, when I approve a trade, shouldn't it still wait that period of time? I can't be expected to keep track of when to actually click the button, can I?? My trade with Freddie said "Monday", but I hit the Accept button after a couple days of no (real) objections, and now it seems it went thru immediately. Why isn't that automated, so when Commish approves, it still doesn't go into effect until it's supposed to?? Sorry... don't think that's my fault...
