Hey Irish, I must apologize to start because I had a rough day and I'm exhausted, so I didn't completely read your review but I did skim it for what I was looking for. If I overlooked this, please forgive me, but did you review the added scenes? I saw your line that the added footage didn't add any major significance, but what were the scenes? From what I remember in the theater, there was the lap dance scene that was cut... were there others? Significant or not, I'd like your review, with a spoiler tag if necessary.

Ah crap, I told you I would wait as long as possible (probably until Wednesday)... I'll have to buy it tomorrow. I would still like your review of the added footage though. I'll do the same once I watch it.

Warning, Spoiler:
Not many deleted scenes that I remember. I think when Jungle Julia was picked up in the beginning, the car ride with the 3 girls is extended about Arlene's (played by Vanessa Ferlito) character talking about her boyfriend. This is followed up when at the bar, Quentin tells someone to hit the lights in the parking light and while on a smoke break, she sees Stuntman Mike's car. Her boyfriend comes up from behind her and coaxes her to make out with him in his car. The two major deleted scenes were the lap dance sequence and a black and white scene added after Stuntman Mike gets out of the hospital and stalks his next group of girls. When you watch it let me know what you think.

I just bought the Death Proof dvd today. I knew I couldn't wait more than one day. \:p

Of course the dvd came with a $5 off coupon for Planet Terror so I'll have to buy that one as well. Is Planet Terror out yet? I didn't see it at the store.

I'll let you know, Irish, what I think of the added scenes as soon as I watch it. It might take me a fews days to get to it, but as soon as I do...

ILSA, SHE WOLF OF THE SS
(First Viewing)

Ilsa is an evil Nazi warden at a death camp that conducts "medical experiments". Ilsa's goal is to prove that woman can withstand more pain and suffering than men and therefore should be allowed to fight on the front lines.

Well I finally got my hands on a copy of this. The style of the film wasn't a typical grindhouse film in that the footage looked manageable and it looked like the film actually had a budget. Dyanne Thorne was good as Ilsa, the hard nosed Nazi b*tch. A great cheesy movie and definitely a grindhouse classic!

Since you have now watched what seems like dozens of grindhouse movies, what would be the top 3 or 4 that you like the best?

Although asking which are the best for this genre might not make sense... Maybe you could make several recommendations based on different aspects of the movies such as the most outrageous, or the highest quality or anything else you can suggest.

I surprisingly enjoyed it. A great revenge flick like the KILL BILLs. It will always hold a special place in my heart because

Warning, Spoiler:
When she gets raped the first time in the woods, the first guy to rape her is taking off all of his clothes, including his socks. My friend who I was watching the movie with said, "Oh, what? He needs to take his socks off to rape someone?"

Agh, so tempting to click on the spoiler!! I need to watch it first.

All these movies you listed, are they available through Blockbuster online rentals?

Now I don't know which version I've seen. The rapes and stuff were pretty graphic though. But the movie is hardly disturbing. It has a B movie feel that one cannot take seriously.

Blibble, did you get the DEATH PROOF and PLANET TERROR DVD's yet? I'm just wondering because I was watching the special features and Robert Rodriguez said his cooking school segment (which is on every DVD he releases) would be on the Grindhouse 2-disc edition (which is not a shock and I expect it sometime in early 2008).

I got Death Proof. I won't get Planet Terror anytime soon though. What is the "cooking school segment"?

Why won't you be getting PLANET TERROR? The cooking school segment is like a 10-minute feature Rodrguez does where he shows the audience how to cook a favorite dish of his (I guess he's a whiz in the kitchen as well).

I enjoyed Planet Terror, but only because it was part of a double feature with fake trailers and all... Like I've said before, it was the whole experience of Grindhouse that made it so much fun. The fact that it was grainy and had missing reels and all that, plus the double feature which you don't see anymore (at least not here). I may buy it eventually, but I'm still hoping for the theatrical release of Grindhouse.

I don't think I ever mentioned that I pretty much agreed with you on your Deathproof dvd review. The extra footage didn't really do much for me. In fact, I preferred the "missing reel". The only scene I thought was kind of cool that was added was Russel's character sitting in the car watching the girls enter the bar (or maybe it was a store?) and he watched them the entire time through his rear view mirror.

The scene where he apparently has a foot fetish was a little ridiculous, but considering the whole idea behind these movies it just made it more "grindhouse" I guess.

I still really like Death Proof by itself though. I might even rate it higher than a couple of other Tarantino movies, depending on my current mood.

Blibble, svsg and other grindhouse fans out there, what is your favorite grindhouse genre? Some of them are:

WOMEN IN PRISON
CANNIBAL
COPS
DISASTER
MAFIA
KUNG FU
SPAGHETTI WESTERNS
BLAXPLOITATION
HORROR
SEXPLOITATION
APOCALYPSE
SPY
SWORD AND SANDAL
WAR
CAR CHASE
SHARK
CRIME
SUPER HEROES

Mine would probably be Nazi Exploitation/Women in Prison films

Irish, you didn't mention Nunsploitation \:\)

Anyway I like Chinese martial arts, Exploitation and Revenge. I am not a big fan of horror.

There's a nunsploitation? I've never seen one. Yeah, I'd say the Kung Fu genre is my second favorite

I don't know how you will get it though, I got it from torrents.

Hey Irish, for some reason I missed this post. Are Spaghetti Westerns really a grindhouse genre? If so, then that has to be my favorite.

The reason I noticed that post is because I wanted to know if you had any additional information on the movie Machete. On Thanksgiving day I watched Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy with my family (Nothing says thanksgiving like Anchorman right? My mom, my grandfather, everyone was there lol) and Danny Trejo was the bartender. So it got me thinking about the Grindhouse fake preview for Machete and when I looked it up on IMDB it looks like it's in production! Have you heard anything else?

Nothing as of now. As far and I know it's a go but nothing's for sure. Robert Rodriguez has so many projects floating around right now with MACHETE, BARBARELLA remake, and SIN CITY 2 & 3. If I had to guess, I would say it'd get done some day but how soon, I don't know.

Also on the grindhouse horizon, the rumor still going around is that Eli Roth's next project after THE CELL is going to be a feature-length movie with nothing but fake grindhouse trailers. I'm guessing it'll be straight-to-DVD like MACHETE.

Any news on the Grindhouse theatrical version (both movies and trailers) on DVD?

Not that I've heard. Japan is getting a 6-disc set that'll have both theaterical and extended editions of both films but nothing new State side. I did buy a Grindhouse Experience Volume 2 which I'm almost finished with.
