Well, let's be honest, they've hardly stretched themselves in years, and now they seem like they're returning to, well, familiar territory.
I think the ballsiest thing a performer can do is to act against type, against what is not only what he is praised for, but expected to be.
And I can't think of a more ambitious turn for either to play. An older, more mature Brokeback Mountain, perhaps.

But you'd happily see them shoot a guy's brains out... Yep. Rather see them shoot a guy then blow a guy. Speak for yourself.

Finally!! I'm probably really outnumbered here, but personally, I like both their earlier work than recent (of course with few exceptions). I don't know! It seems perhaps they are both at a stage in their careers (and life) where they can sit back and not be real particular on what films they're in. DeNiro's comedies have never appealed to me, and neither have many of Pacino's recent films. Yet,I've always been more of a Pacino fan, but consider both the best actors of my lifetime. Regardless of the films they make, they both have the "right stuff." Then too, I've always been a sucker for cop/detective searching killer type storylines, so this does sound very appealing to me. I will look forward to seeing both superstars together. TIS

I don't know if capo is joking, but I seriously think playing a gay couple would be far more challenging for both of them than cop/mob genre. Half-joking at first, not now. Affection and love are more challenging than firing guns. Neither Pacino nor De Niro really act anymore; in fact, they're just animated props. Pacino's yelling and gum-chewing could easily be replaced by CGI... once, I'll admit, CGI improves. I don't think any male screen performer comes close to Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman or Gael GarcĂa Bernal right now.

Michael Corleone was the only role he played that I thought was really good. Ya, I would have to agree. Although I think he was pretty darn good in Scent of a Woman. And I'm NOT a Scarface fan. Sorry guys.

Sorry guys. Why does everyone forget about SERPICO anyway? That's what I was thinking, too. It's a wonderful performance.
Hey, how's it going?
