hi all...can anybody understand this..i bought a copy of godfather 2 on vhs; thing is there is no section concerning young vito in little italy in the entire film..now unless im going mad have i bought a part of the actual made for video trilogy .which is missing the entire robert de niro section or have a stumbled onto something misprinted or something along those lines..please help as its doing my head in..cheers

Your situation is baffling. There are several versions of GFII and the GF Trilogy on VHS. Some are the theatrical releases, others are part of the "Saga" or "Trilogy" that were shown on TV, and are put together in chronological order and contain deleted scenes. But all versions (or at least those available in the US) of GFII should have the DeNiro scenes as young Vito.
Forgive me if this seems like an obvious question, but have you viewed the VHS from start to finish? DeNiro doesn't appear immediately.

yeah guys i bought the copy from my local library..who every now and again the sell off their videos..as now there converting all there stock to dvd..the reason i bought it was it was on sale for £1 so i just had it again as it was so cheap..i allready have it on dvd but cannot find it ..my woman has moved all my shit around and alot of my dvds have gone walkies (especailly the good ones)

and also the film starts with hagen and fredo around vito in bed tellin vito about michael and informing vito fredo is going to vegas in the casino business..and hagen tells vito it was michael who killed sollozzo

this is my third time watching this version and still no young vito..granted first time i watched it i had smoked a couple of spliffs..but ive been through it and no sign of robert de niro although on the back of the vhs case it clearly states his name..this is strange there is nothing of young vito when the cop who talks to young vito first calls him vito corleone not vito from corleone..baffling to say the least

sounds like you bought tape 2, of the original godfather to me

you know what mate..i thought the same thing..but the vhs cassette has on it the godfather 2 colour/190 mins aprox 1974 paramount pictures and the coppola company...now i may be wrong but wasnt the first godfather made in 1972 not 1974.. on the front of the vhs case it says the godfather part 2...but the actual video cassette says the ...godfather 2...it doesent say anything on the video cassette about part two of two as a video film in 2 cassettes would

plus mate in reply to my last post..this cassette is 190 minutes..if it was the first godfather split into 2 seperate cassettes that would make the film 6 hours long..something is deffinitely dodgy about this version ive got...maybe ive stumbled upon a alternative version worth millions of pounds an im really sitting here a multi millionaire..then again back in the real world..but you gotta agree its wierd..ive never heard of this before and by the sounds of it you guys havent either..and if godfather afficianados like yourselves havent heard of it then it is rare

If you purchased this on the "up and up" then you indeed have some freakish version of The Godfather. Dont know what its worth because the film without key scenes would probably be worth less, not more.

If it starts with the scene in which Vito has just come home from the hospital, it sounds like you're missing a whole lot more than just the DeNiro-Young Vito stuff.

Maybe there's simply a disc or two missing (and that's why the library was selling it so cheaply).

all i know boys is it is the 25th anniversary edition and includes retrospective interviews with ffc al pacino ; talia shire and author Mario Puzo unique to this film...as it says on the video cassette box..it isnt missing a disc as its a video cassette..the other info on the front cover is the normal godfather symbol (the puppeteers hands) the godfather part2 digitally remastered...and io know it was cheap to buy as someone has said maybe thats why it was so cheap..but the library where i purchased it from wasnt a video library but a local council (uk)books dvds lending library..and they have allways sold off there stock cheaply..all the video stock was £1 each so that cannot be the reason it was sold cheap

I think you definitely have tape 2 of the Godfather Trilogy. I have the complete 4-tape vhs box set. Tape 1 has virtually all the Robert De Niro scenes, as it is compiled in chronological order. I have just checked my tape 2, and it indeed starts with Vito recovering at home in bed, with Tom etc around. It ends with the fall of Cuba, Michael kissing Fredo ('I know it was you..') and Michael trying to get Fredo to get on the plane with him. Tape 3 has the rest of GFII plus GFIII, and tape 4 is the interviews and stuff (Godfather family - a look inside). One sure way to know if you have tape 2 of the trilogy is to see if your tape has the extra scenes in it - for example the scene where Michael is recovering in bed after the car bomb, the scene with Gardner Shaw in it at the Las Vegas party, and the scene where Fabrizzio gets blown up by the car bomb after closing up Fred's Pizza for the night, in revenge for killing Appollonia.

Anyway, I think you've been done mate - that tape makes no sense in isolation, you've got half of GFI and half of GFII. Time to put a horse's head in someone's bed!

thanks black hand...youve deffinitely got it there..my copy ends the same way in cuba with michael telling fredo he knows..them old lady scammers at the library got my hard earned quid lol...im glad you cleared it up though bruv i hadnt known of a 4 set vhs compilation ..thing is i like the robert de niro scenes best of the godfather 2...thanks again black....onarposynot
