No, Sofia's wasn't the worst performance in GFIII (IMO, that dubious title belongs either to Eli Wallach or George Hamilton), but it was far from acceptable. The real point is that GF and II had inspired casting and no weak performances. That's one of the reasons why GFIII, though not a terrible film overall, is nowhere near the same league as GF and II. It is, IMO, an acceptable denouement to the Godfather Saga, but an unworthy successor to the first two films.
Agreed Turnbull, and my vote for worst performance far and away goes to Eli Wallach. I mean Hamilton was always a lightweight, and FFC castig him was similar to his casting of Merle in GF II, he was some 50's guy with a fake name...forget who.
Wallach, however has some creds as an actor, and his performance in this was so over the top and so bad, I can hardly watch him.
As for Sofia, she tried, but just didnt have the talent. She is one hell of a director though.
