Well put, Johnny!
I find a very big difference in viewing GF and II to catch new details each time and understand additional script nuances (I'm still amazed at the complexity of the Roth/Michael relationship, for example). But I wonder if I'll ever figure out some very basic plot stuff in III. III is an ok denouement to the Corleone saga and is a reasonably good movie on its own. But the weakness of the plot weakens the protagonists and makes the entire film feeble by comparison to the others.
