Actually, if you see my post above, Michael completely ignores Merle and says, Que vuoi to Connie. He was dismissing Merle as unimportant and asking Connie what she wanted, why she had come to see him.
The way he snubs Merle is really Michael at his coldest. "I don't know this Merle, I don't know what he lives on..." and if you marry this man I will be very disappointed, and best of all
tell him marriage is out of the question, I'm sure he'll understand.
