I find this picture (from space) of the U.S. during the big blackout from a few years ago very interesting: I sat on Lori's porch that night looking up at the sky, telling her kids to remember the night because we may never see the night sky so clearly again. I was in the elevator of a Madison Avenue office building. Thank God I wasn't between floors or I would have been stuck for at least a day. They got me out relatively fast, about 30 minutes. Of course being in the city, the first thing to go through my mind was that it was terrorists. Thank God it was just the electric companies.

Perhaps the power outage was more concentrated in New York than Canada?

I'm pretty sure that the whole coastline was affected. Well, I've never really cared to look into it, but the way I remember it being described on the news when it happened was "the entire eastern coastline" to which I assumed from the southern tip of Florida, to the northern tip of Montreal. This was, as I said, making assumptions without caring to investigate. I see now it looks a bit more like New York and the regions slightly north and west of New York, New England, and parts of Canada.

I disagree with you; why isn't the sea black? Cruise ships. Lots and lots of cruise ships.

Sorry I missed your post, Ice.
I disagree with you; why isn't the sea black? The sea IS black. It's blacker than the rest of the continent, just not blacker than the light-less New York. The "blue areas" have street lights, city lights, and pretty, city women that wanna hold me tight. However, the oceans and New York have ONLY moon light. So....my HYPOTHESIS goes as follows.... 'This satellite picture CLEARLY proves that when given ONLY moon light, the ocean is "brighter" than land.'(This makes good sense too if you think of the endless miles of ocean that can sometimes become visible during a full moon.) *** What I'd like to know is why the hell this friggin' old lady is on the side of this friggin' building.

On that satellite, pic, though, how come New York is black? Why isn't it just blue like everywhere else without any lights? You pose a GREAT question, Mick. There's no doubt about it...that, is a GRRREAT question, my friend. In fact, anyone who doesn't think that's a GREAT question; obviously has some form of mental deficiencies. Do you have a Natural Sciences department at that 'school' of yours? You COULD ask them, "Mr. Pattison." Winter Time at 'King Ludwig's Castle' in Bavaria.

Is that a real place? I thought it was a painting until I read your caption. Now I'm confused.
EDIT: IF that's real then that picture just makes me furious. Some people actually get to LIVE LIKE THAT?!??!?!? I HATE THAT KING EARWIG!

And don't worry b/c according to history King "Earwig" died a very lonely and depressed man! His most notable contribution to society was that he served as a MAJOR financial backer to composer Richard Wagner, whom he absolutely idolized!

I don't think you can compare the two. Yeah, it's punk rock, but they had two completely different sounds.
I really don't know.
