They're like those ridiculous Mary Poppins accents. They're actually quite easy to point out once you've heard one.
They're very comical, in my mind. The slang is over-the-top, and the actual pronunciations are just ridiculous. Just for fun, I copied what you just wrote LLC, and pasted it into Babelfish, which is an online translator, just in case anyone didn't know. I translated it into Japanese, which gave me this: "それらはメリーそれらのばかばかしいPoppins アクセントのようである。それらは1 つを聞いたら指摘しかなり易い実際に。 それらは私の心で非常にこっけい、である。俗語はに上であり、実際の発音はちょうどばかばかしい。" I copied that Japanese text, and translated it back to English, and this is how it came back: "Those seem like the Poppins accent where Mary those are ridiculous. Those when you inquire about one, are easy to become indication, really. Those are very humorous, with my heart. It is on the slang range, actual pronunciation is exactly ridiculous." I love translators. My favorite part is "It is on the slang range, actual pronunciation is exactly ridiculous."

Yeah, it's me. Not my natural accent, though. I need to fancy it up a bit, or else you'd have trouble understanding it. I could'nt understand a word of it A posh Geordie?? Never heard the like of it....

I have no clue what posh Geordie is, but I like it. I remember during the "English Invasion" era of the Beatles. Man, to hear them talk was so cool, but I wanted to say slow down, I can't understand you when you talk so fast. I felt kind of dumb asking to have English translated. TIS

I ate two hotdogs that were a few weeks past their Sell By date and I got really sick last night. Why did I continue to eat them even though I knew that they were expired? Why didn't someone stop me? I thought mothers were supposed to know better than that. Hope you're feeling better today!

My accent has been perverted this past year because I live with a Croatian who grew up in Germany, a Frenchman and a Polish girl. Also, I've met a lot of Americans and Canadians, and realised early on that I had to change something and do it quick to stop people going, "Sorry?" or "What?"
I'll try and upload something "natural". It seems like most of the American members can't differentiate between English accents, apparently. So, my question is, do the English have a problem differentiating between the different American accents? Can you tell a neutral/northern accent from a New York or Boston accent? A general southern accent from a Texan accent? Or maybe you can spot the difference. Is that because our accents vary more drastically? Or are the English more preceptive? Maybe the English have just as much trouble differentiating except you, who are more preceptive than the general public? I don't know. I feel I have a pretty good grasp on telling the difference between different breeds of English accent.

Mothers ARE supposed to know better. Mr. Babe took one bite of his, and tossed it in the pail. He kept warning me, but I refused to listen. I hope you are feeling better today SB.

So, my question is, do the English have a problem differentiating between the different American accents? I suppose I have a problem, yeah, regarding placing it in some sort of geographical context. I have a good ear for accents, but if I've not been to that place, I won't know where it's from. I might distinguish a Chicago accent from a Boston one, but wouldn't know either was Chicago or Boston.

One thing I noticed, which isn't really to do with accents per se, is that on The Sopranos a lot of the Italian Americans in New York speak with a slight lisp, with the bottom lip protruding. Could you explain why that is? Is it to do with the idiolect or pronunciation requirements of native Italian or what? I've never been cognizant of that. New York Italianese is closely related to a Brooklyn/Bronx accent (a "th" gets replaced by a "d" - like "them" becomes "dem")... an "oy" sound becomes an "er" sound ... like "oil" becomes "earl".... similarly in Italian a "c" comes out like a "g" ("cappicola" - a ham - becomes "gabagool")...

Funny you mention that Mick. I've found, through watching reruns, that Gandolfini's "lisp" was not as heavy in the first season. He intentionally thickened it up, because the producers didn't feel he was guido enough.
