I thought it was just sauce (perhaps "gravy")... but fried peppers?? Maybe it's all that comedy you're playing with those young girls......
I'd have to look, but I'm pretty sure in the book it was a "sloppy sandwich of fried peppers."
That's probably how it got into my head.
