On that satellite, pic, though, how come New York is black? Why isn't it just blue like everywhere else without any lights?

I was in the elevator of a Madison Avenue office building. Thank God I wasn't between floors or I would have been stuck for at least a day. They got me out relatively fast, about 30 minutes. Of course being in the city, the first thing to go through my mind was that it was terrorists. Thank God it was just the electric companies.

Perhaps the power outage was more concentrated in New York than Canada?

I'm pretty sure that the whole coastline was affected. What I found unbelievable, was that in this day and age, it took so long to get the power back on. I guess that's one instance where no matter how far we've come technology wise, we'll always be vulnerable. I no longer make fun of my father for always having a flashlight and batteries on hand. Candles, too.

Well, I've never really cared to look into it, but the way I remember it being described on the news when it happened was "the entire eastern coastline" to which I assumed from the southern tip of Florida, to the northern tip of Montreal. This was, as I said, making assumptions without caring to investigate. I see now it looks a bit more like New York and the regions slightly north and west of New York, New England, and parts of Canada.

I think it's b/c there is light in those areas and there is absolutely NONE in New York. The atmosphere in the "blue" areas is illuminated by some sort of light, no matter how faint it may be. In New York there is no light at all and it's therefore literally dark.

The sea IS black. It's blacker than the rest of the continent, just not blacker than the light-less New York.

The "blue areas" have street lights, city lights, and pretty, city women that wanna hold me tight. However, the oceans and New York have ONLY moon light. So....my HYPOTHESIS goes as follows....

'This satellite picture CLEARLY proves that when given ONLY moon light, the ocean is "brighter" than land.'

(This makes good sense too if you think of the endless miles of ocean that can sometimes become visible during a full moon.)

What I'd like to know is why the hell this friggin' old lady is on the side of this friggin' building.

You must be color blind. The ocean is a deep blue.

EDIT: I just re-read it... so you're saying the ocean looks blue, but is actually black.. its just the moonlight reflecting off the water? I can see that, I suppose.

Ice, she's washing her windows! When I lived in the Bronx, you would routinely see all the ladies in the neighborhood almost killing themselves to clean the windows!

Well, no duh it's not as black as New York. New York is pretty fucking black.

I'm still in a bitchy mood about that blackout picture.

Black would not be on that pic, because black is not a colour. It'd be a deep blue.

You pose a GREAT question, Mick. There's no doubt about it...that, is a GRRREAT question, my friend. In fact, anyone who doesn't think that's a GREAT question; obviously has some form of mental deficiencies.

Is that a real place? I thought it was a painting until I read your caption. Now I'm confused.

EDIT: IF that's real then that picture just makes me furious. Some people actually get to LIVE LIKE THAT?!??!?!? I HATE THAT KING EARWIG!

Oh yes, it's real. And don't worry b/c according to history King "Earwig" died a very lonely and depressed man! His most notable contribution to society was that he served as a MAJOR financial backer to composer Richard Wagner, whom he absolutely idolized!

I don't think you can compare the two. Yeah, it's punk rock, but they had two completely different sounds.

I really don't know.
