My brother and sister-in-law came to visit. My mom joined us all at my sister's house today. It was the first time in three years we've all been together (and may be the last time while my mom is alive).
I went outside to have a smoke with my sister-in-law and almost passed out from the heat. Now, a few hours later, a sea breeze kicked in and its bearable (but still uncomfortable). That's nice, SC. I don't want to start in on you but you should cut back on those things in this heat. It's hard enough to breathe as it is.

Yeah, I see Jeter with "interesting" post-menopausal women all the time. Not sure if you are joking or not PB, but its getting a little too personal/insulting. Did I start this?

It must have been an awesome day. Hopefully no one else had the cajones to step outside in this oppressive heat. Does your mom still live in Florida? Beth, it was one of the best (short) afternoons I've ever had... just all of us being together and telling our stories and joking around like we always did almost had me in tears when I had to leave. My mom now lives in New York again... she's about 20 minutes away from me. (This was the first time we were all together since you and I hung out in the City). My mom makes me laugh... I'm the youngest (and her favorite) and she always reminds me of the fact that I'll always be her baby. She sometimes still talks to me like I'm a kid ... she'll ask about my friend, Lori, and says, "How's your little friend"? It was important (to me) for her to meet and know my friends, to let her know I have people about whom I care in my life (outside of the family), and I wanted Don Cardi and Geoff to drive out to meet her but her advanced "forgetfulness" would make that difficult now. She tells her stories that we've heard hundreds of times but now the "facts" have changed some... its sad but we make her laugh about that... I guess thats our way. I heard two stories from my brother that I never heard before. One of them I can tell here: When my brother was about 10 he went to work one day with my dad (as I used to do later when I was that age)... it really consisted of us sitting in the car while my dad went into one of the bars, made his collection and had a few drinks with the "boys". My brother was sitting behind the driver's wheel pretending he was driving the car while he was waiting. He looked up and saw two guys go into a barbershop next door to the bar my dad was in. The two guys pulled out a gun and held it to the barber's head and robbed him. My brother was scared and didn't know what to do so he just ducked down until the two guys ran out into the street. He then ran into the bar (to tell my father what he saw). My dad was siting at a table with a couple of wiseguys and sternly asked my brother what he was doing there. My brother knew he wasn't supposed to be in the place but shouted, "Dad, you don't understand, I just saw two guys go into the barbershop with guns and rob the barber". The bar owner, sitting at the table, and a bigshot in Paul Vario's crew, stood up (he was a GIANT of a guy), walked over to my brother, looked intently at him and warned, "YOU DIDN'T SEE NUTTIN'". My brother quickly understood. Here's the four of us a few years ago. Thats my brother on the left, my mom, my sister and me on the right: . (Sorry to carry on with this... its a release to an emotional day).

SC - great stories and photo. Thanks for sharing them. No apologies are ever necessary! My mom makes me laugh...she'll ask about my friend, Lori, and says, "How's your little friend"? Somehow, it's difficult to imagine your introducing Lori with "Say hello to my little friend!" Signor V.
"For me, there's only my wife..."
"Sure I cook with wine - sometimes I even add it to the food!"
"When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies?"
"It was a grass harp... And we listened."
"Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it? Every, every minute?"
"No. Saints and poets, maybe... they do some."

[quote=Beth E]My mom makes me laugh... I'm the youngest (and her favorite) and she always reminds me of the fact that I'll always be her baby. . (Sorry to carry on with this... its a release to an emotional day). Me too. My mom still calls to make sure I have an umbrella when it rains. Was that picture taken at your family reunion years ago? Wasn't that the one where your uncle was there. That was a very emotional day too as I recall you saying. I remember thinking when you first showed me a pic of that day that your brother reminds me of someone, but I can't quite put my finger on it. (I know he looks like you, but that's not it).
