He mentioned it in the ShoutBox earlier. I believe his exact words were: 90° -- my cockles are warm again today

DS, you seem to have a rather selective memory. What is it - studying for the MCATs now???

What happened to them, anyway? Did they take a break?

They seem a bit more feisty toward each other nowadays. Then again, that's probably how they like it. JG has said that it spices things up a bit.

Selective memory? Who? What? Me? \:D

I actually took the GMAT, the test for b-school dorks. The MCAT is the test for med-school dorks.

I am proud to say that I submitted my first application today. One down, one to go.

I know. I used to be an instructor for Stanley Kaplan, but I taught their SAT class. I was teasing you, because I believe you MIGHT have blamed a lapse in Sports posts on studying for the GMATs. I thought perhaps you were expanding your horizons even further and that studying somehow interfered with your memory....

PB, Although I can only speak from photographs, our friend DS bears quite the resemblance to Benjamin Bratt.

Ohhhhh... Maybe I am taking the MCATs. \:D

I didn't know you used to be an SAT instructor. I had a bad experience with the SAT - I went to the wrong high school to take it.

I got a notice that I was supposed to take it at "High School East." I forget the name. I got a second notice, which I didn't open because I thought it was just a confirmation notice. Apparently, the venue changed to "High School West." My brother dropped me off at the original venue and drove off, so when I found out I was in the wrong place, I had no way of getting to the correct venue (which was a few miles away). Luckily, a teacher at the "East" school just happened to be working that weekend and she drove me to the right place. I think I made it with a few minutes to spare.

I was flustered, but I ended up doing ok.

DS, that sounds like the ultimate SAT nightmare, like forgetting to bring a #2 pencil, or showing up in your underwear, or forgetting to grid your answers.

I was an SAT instructor, and then trained the new SAT instructors. It was many moons ago, though, when there used to be analogies and antonyms on the test. Training the instructors was far better than facing a classroom of 16 year olds at 9:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning.

Geoff, it looks like a great pick! Minnesota has a shutout going. Actually, a 2-hitter! You hit the jackpot tonight! I can't even imagine how many points you'll end up with.

This is the beginning of your championship, by the way. I can feel it.

Well, my son, J-Bird, ended his run for a Little League championship in Williamsport as his team lost the District championship to Carlisle, 4-0. The Carlisle pitcher threw a no-hitter, only surrendering two walks, and they got a 2 out 2 run single in the top of thefifth and a 2 out 2 run homer in the 6th for the win. A scary moment happened late in the game when a Carlisle base runner tried to break up a double play attempt and went in high to second base just when our second baseman pivoted and fired sidearmed and hit the runner at point blank range just above the bridge of the nose. happily, he was okay.

Our team did well to reach the championship game in a district with 25 all-star teams. All in all, J-Bird's teams went 29-6 with a league championship, which was nice.

Little League adds a nice touch at the end of tournament games by giving each player a hot dog and soda after the game. It really fosters camaraderie and sportsmanship.

Bittersweet, but still quite the accomplishment! KL Jr should be proud of his team's accomplishments and success up to that point! 29-6, they did MUCH better than the Yankees this year, and that's saying something! \:D

I hope TR comes back one of these days... that team was phenomenal... and besides that "childhood cancer from the water" crap, that put us on the map in a positive sense... lol ;\)

KL, congratulations on your sons great season! My stepson, Anthony finished his season on Wednesday. I'm not sure if you saw my post earlier about him making the All-Star team for the first time. We had a blast. His All-Star team, the Washington Manor All-Stars, went 1-7 in the two tournaments they were in. Not good at all.

However, the second tournament was held here in San Leandro for the first time in years, so it was fun watching our boys in front of the home town. Not only that, but Anthony was the only kid to hit a home run during the contest! The league commissioner signed the ball and dated it with Tone's name on it and put it in a baseball case. After the game they presented it to him along with a Home run pin. It was pretty special! Even though the team didn't play well, he played awesome! The cool thing is that him as well as his good friend Aaron were the only ones to consistently get on base and drive in runs.

I hope he is into baseball this much next year. He can be flaky from year to year, but I think after making the All-Star team he has the itch.

I don't have any kids of my own, but Anthony is as close to a son as I will ever have, and I think I understand the excitement you must go through, KL, with your son. I'm so proud \:D

Thank you, DS. When I first read your post I thought you were congratulating BB and me for not being last in the Challenge Game.

Congratulations to Anthony. Homeruns are special moments for kids...and the parents. It sounds like he may be grvitating towards baseball. Being around youth baseball for years as a parent, coach and association president, I think my greatest joy is watching kids fall in love with the game.
