A tornado touched down in Brooklyn yesterday? I guess now a tree really will need to grow in Brooklyn. http://www.nypost.com/seven/08092007/new...rman.htm?page=1

Yea, I just woke up and saw the headline about the Brooklyn tornado. I guess it's the first one in like 118 years. I didn't see any details on the news though. Any deaths? Damages? TIS

The report I heard said no deaths from the storm. One woman died in a car accident. As far as damages..
"In all, the storm uprooted 217 trees - 174 in Brooklyn alone - damaged 40 homes and wrecked as many as 200 cars, officials said. "

The tornado actually started on Staten Island, skipped over the Narrows (near the Verrazano Bridge), touched back down in Brooklyn (near Bay Ridge/Sunset Park), hopped up again and came back down finally near where Paul grew up. Most of the damage was done in Bay Ridge where some 20 homes had to be declared uninhabitable. Trees were all over the streets there. The storm continued moving eastward and hit my area about an hour later. It was much less severe at this point but the rain was as heavy as I've ever seen.... we had 2" in about a half hour. That 1889 mention of the last tornado in Brooklyn is unofficial; the one yesterday is being touted as the first official tornado in Brooklyn's (recorded) history. Yesterday was the hottest day on Long Island this year (but not as bad as Beth had in Baltimore) and we didn't have any earthquakes (like TIS' area in L.A.).

The official temperature yesterday in some parts of Baltimore was 101, feel like temp 115. And wouldn't you know it the bus I was on last night had no a/c. Uggh!

Actually here in California, although it's been in the 90's, it's unseasonable "cool". We usually have been in triple digits for at least a month by now. I hope it continues. As far as earthquakes, yea, it's kind of scary because we haven't had any shaking here in quite a while, and with all these disasters (bridge in Minnesota, and now tornado in Brooklyn), it's kind of scary. I can't say that I've thought about a bridge collasping as I am driving over it. No, not me, I every now and then think, as I'm driving over an overpass or bridge, "please God don't let there be an earthquake until I pass over the bridge." TIS

I hope Beth has an umbrella. I just checked the radar and she's gonna get wet in about 2½ hours. I am SO not going there.... Me neither. But I REALLY wanted to.

I'll go there. Unless the roof caves in at work I'll still be at my desk in 2 1/2 hours. I don't trust these weathermen. They've been promising a soaking for days. I'm still dry as a cactus. But a girl always has a back up plan, which is why I keep a spear in my drawer.

Not going there, either. That should have been spare, not spear. If only I had a spear in my drawer.

 I want it.
