My top 3 in order are:

1) Mel Gibson as William Wallace in BRAVEHEART

2) Kevin Costner as Jim Garrison in JFK

3) Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN

Alex DeLarge from A Clockwork Orange.
He was a great role model when i was growing up.

The hero and the coward both feel the same thing, but the hero uses his fear, projects it onto his opponent, while the coward runs. It's the same thing, fear, but it's what you do with it that matters. Cus D'Amato

Anybody remember Judd Hirsch as a detective in an early 80's film called WITHOUT A TRACE?

It was loosely based on the Etan Patz disappearance but given a happy ending for the movies. Anyway, I loved Hirsch in that film. When I think of movie heroes, I always think of the detective he played in it for some reason.

I LOVE the ending (when they're driving back from Connecticut and the other police departments give them an escort).

That is one of my absolutely favorite films. It FINALLY came out on DVD last year, and you can bet I got myself a copy.

No matter how many times I've seen it, I cry my eyes out at the ending. Thank you, Connecticut, but we'll take it from here. If it's all right with you, New York, we'd like to come along for the ride.

I know it probably doesn't happen as often as it should, but a day like that has got to be the best day in a cop's life.

Great ending, SC.

You see alot of the Bruckner in that shot, as it cuts through the Bronx into Manhattan. I love when the local police radio in that they want to come along for the ride. It's really one of my favorite endings ever.

Give me a kleenex. That ending where the car is coming closer and the dog jumps up and down and the whole neighborhood is there.

Looks like another dvd I need to put on my buy list.

I'll add my favorite hero - Atticus Finch (Gregory Peck) in "To Kill a Mockingbird". Courageous, compassionate and caring.

I think this or THE UNTOUCHABLES was the first Kevin Costner movie I liked. The movie may be all "Oliver Stoned" but I still love it and it's in my all-time Top 10

What do you mean chopper???
At first he was headed down the wrong path, with his beatings, rape and stealing. Then he gets locked up,experimented on and becomes unable to do violent things. Then it's discovered that the Government fucked him over immensely and he attempts suicide, only to survive and have the Government in his pocket.
...and he becomes "cured" again.
What a story of human triumph. If only all the kids of todays generation had role models like that..instead of steroid taking sports stars.

Don't worry, there are worse crimes being committed here...

Kevin Costner is fucking horrible.

I wasn't talking about Costner himself, but rather the character he was playing. But yes, he did do a good job in that movie.

I know. But I loathe that man. His voice is usually so devoid of emotion... He's basically just a really fleshy robot with genitals.

If he did a good job in any film though, then yes, it was JFK.

I agree completely, he is my second most hated actor right after Tom Cruise.

Can this qualify as a hero? After all I was rooting for it the whole time during the movie.
