OK... try the 1M (thats for up to about 3 feet) ... the 5M setting (that its on now) is for taking a picture of something thats about 5 meters away (about 15 feet).
Huh? If you're talking about 03M, 2M, 3M, 6M, 12M, RAW settings... those, on my camera at least, are Picture Quality settings, the first meaning 640x480 and the last 4048x3040 (on my 6.3MP camera).
TIS - What you want for closeups is the Macro setting (on mine, it looks like a flower icon, and works from about 3" to 2.5 feet away). It should be mentioned somewhere in the manual. Enable that, then zoom in/out until you get a good composition and focus... and keep steady. Good luck!
