I was just going thru all of my Godfather-related collectibles (you'll find out why soon enough), and just found an old menu from Jack Dempsey's Restaurant! I was unclear on the location of the joint, so now I see it was at 1619 Broadway in New York City. They even use the old-style telephone numbers: CO. 5-7875 and CI. 7-3620 Apparently this is the same address as the famous Brill Building , but I'll have to take a closer look and see how they shared that address... I sure wish the prices in this menu were still valid. Here are some highlights: DRINKS Martini - 70c Dewars - 75c Remy Martin VSOP - $1.25 Bottle of domestic wine - $2.50 Bottle of imported Chianti - $4.50 Bacardi (Cuban!) - 85c Beer - 45c-70c Soda - 25c APPS Shrimp Cocktail - $1.35 Cherrystone Clam Cocktail - 75c ENTREES Beef Tenderloin - $3.25 Wiener Schnitzel - $2.45 Whole Maine Lobster - $3.75 Pork Chops - $2.35 18 oz Sirloin Steak - $4.95 DESSERT Cheese Cake - 60c Pie a la Mode - 65c Coffee - 20c Next time I'm in the city I'll have to stroll over to this address and see what's going on now.
I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! lol Whaddaya want me to do? Whack a guy? Off a guy? Whack off a guy? --Peter Griffin My DVDs | Facebook | Godfather Filming Locations

TIS - 2 blocks from your hotel Remember we walked passed it on the way to the steakhouse? SC pointed it out, but just wasn't sure which block, exactly, it was on - but now that we know, I'll have to check it out again

When I was a kid, Dempsey used to sit in a booth in the front window, and autograph postcards which depicted his fight with Jess Willard when he won the Heavyweight Championship.
I stll have one somewhere.

I smell a charity auction for the 30th anniversary of GFII.
"The Godfather was a man to whom everybody came for help and never were they disappointed. He made no empty promises, nor the craven excuse that his hands were tied by more powerful forces in the world than himself. It was not necessary that he be your friend, it was not even important that you had no means with which to repay him. Only one thing was required. That you, yourself, proclaim your friendship. And then, no matter how poor or powerless the supplicant, the Godfather would take that person's troubles to his heart. He would let nothing stand in the way to a solution of that person's woe. His reward? Friendship, the respectful title 'Don' and sometimes the more affectionate salutation of 'Godfather.' Perhaps, to show respect only, never for profit, some humble gift - a gallon or homemade wine or a basket of fresh baked goods on a holiday. It was understood to proclaim that you were in his debt and that he had the right to call upon you at any time to redeem the debt by some small service." -- Mario Puzo, The Godfather (1969).

Great piece of (New York City) Americana, Geoff! There's a webpage for Dempsey's Restaurant that shows some of the menu covers during different time frames. You may be able to identify the approximate age of the menu by checking HERE

The matchbook I have is like the one on the bottom, but it's never been used.

Broadway @ 49th St ... there's no restaurant there any more, though. As I said, the Brill Bldg is at the same address, but, I'll have to go there and see what's going on for myself... I took a screen capture from the DVD. I kept it large so you can see more detail... HERE What's curious to me in that picture is that there appears to be a reflection in the window, underneith where it says "Jack" and moving towards the left. It appears to be something like R - I - Y/V - O/C/G - I/L ... What could've been accross the street spelled something like that?

The Brill Building is in the middle of the block; Dempsey's Restaurant was on the northwest corner (ie. if you were looking at the front door of the Brill, you'd have to look to the right to see where the restaurant used to be).
