I hate the DMV!! I had to go about 2 years ago for the first time in 12 years and it was just for an eye test. I waited at least 2 1/2 hours. What a pain in the ass. it only reminded me how just the DMV's reputation is.

Our DMV is "new and improved" -- they even changed the name to Motor Vehicle Commission -- I had to go there in February to renew my license and it was infinitely better than the old DMV we had -- I forget exactly how long it took, but I was practically in and out for a photo license! (Alas, I probably just jinxed it for tomorrow! )

Well I just UNjinxed it for you.

My registration and plates expires the last day of my b-day month. I guess Jersey's is different.

My registration/plates are due in March (the same month I got my car), but, a drivr's "license" renewal is every 5 years (with a good driving record). Plus, I know this year I'll need a smog check before I can re-register. A new car doesn't need a smog for the first 4 years I believe, then it's every other year after that.

I renewed mine last month. about 10 years ago PennDOT (Dept. of Transportation)built a new customer service building and while it's always busy, there are no lngere any waiting lines. It's great.

That reminds me of my old business cards. I worked for an economic development agency. We wanted to take advantage of our proximity to NYC, so our slogan was "Right Near The Big Apple Is A Real Plum". Our boss decided that everything should be plum-colored, even our business cards. The problem was, they looked more lavender than anything else. It was rather embarrassing (and IMO, unbusinesslike) to have to hand out these lavender business cards.

Okay, so I enter the DMV (I almost typed DMC ) -- no line at the reception desk ( ), tell the girl (who was very friendly ) that I wasn't sure if I needed to renew or replace my registration card. She said no problem ( ) just fill out this form. I fill it out, and go to the "Registration Express" window -- where there's absolutely no one waiting ( ) -- and the woman almost apologetically ( ) said I'd have to pay for the full renewal ($46.50 vs $5). No problemo! Literally 2-3 minutes later I was out the door w/ my registration: 6 MINUTES TOTAL!!!

I LOVE OUR NEW DMV!!
