Rep: Amy Winehouse Had Been Asleep

What was Amy Winehouse doing wandering outside in London's predawn chill wearing only jeans and a red bra?

"She was not on an all-night bender," her U.K. rep tells PEOPLE of Winehouse's appearance outside her flat at 5:45 a.m. Sunday morning.

Winehouse, 24, was sound asleep when she heard a noise outside. Having had friends over earlier in the evening, she wondered if one returned, according to the rep, who said: "She heard all these noises, and she went outside to look and there were all these photographers."

The rep added, "She'd been sound asleep, and then there were all these photographers – of course she looked startled."

British newspapers reported the singer – captured in photographs sans makeup and her trademark beehive – was "muttering incomprehensibly."

Says her rep: "In light of recent reports, it's easy to make false assumptions, but she's getting better and she needs the space to do that."

After a rocky start to her U.K. tour, the singer on Nov. 27 canceled all appearances for the rest of the year.

I realised earlier tonight that I've been on this board for just over five years now. I've changed a lot but I'm still the same. I used to sign every single post with "Mick" on the bottom, haha.

Good times. I remember really looking forward to IT lessons in high school so I could check this board; and my best friend back then saw me on it and joined. "Intellegence" he was called, misspelling his name out of unintentional (quite embarrassing) irony.

No I'm sorry it's a fake one that we've had for years.

I remember! And yeah, quite the name to fuck up the spelling!

Never feel sorry for NOT killing a (living) tree, Miggy! EVERYONE should have artificial trees!!

The artificial tree makes a mess, I'd hate to see what a real tree does

I hope you like vacuuming, because you'll be vacuuming up pine needles until March.

And hopefully you don't have a cat because the cat will eat the pine needles and then throw up somewhere in the house that you won't find until you get up in the middle of the night and walk around in the dark barefoot.

Or be like my cat and drink the water in the tree stand. You'll be constantly putting water back in it.

And also hope your cat isn't a tree climber.

Tiger loves the tree, he climbs halfway up shaking all the ornaments on the way, and lays in it.

He even knocks off some ornaments and plays with them.

I'm glad he gets enjoyment out of it
