I met up with an old flame today and she bored the living daylights out of me. I simply wanted to tear her clothes off and ravage her. But conversation-wise: ugh.

I literally went through the same shit the other day.

The first time I set eyes on Mary Swanson, I just got that old fashioned romantic feeling where I'd do anything to bone her.

VCR ALERT - Sunday, December 23rd at 4:00 p.m. (Eastern) on TCM; "Lovers and Other Strangers". An absolutely hilarious film in which Richard Castellano (Clemenza) steals the movie. (Diane Keaton plays his daughter-in-law).

Thanks, added it to the TV Listings no one looks at... ;\)

(But I'm afraid "VCR" is so 80's, some here might not recognize the term. Translation: "DVR" )

But if you're over 80 (SC) you don't know what DVR is.

Thats not true. I've had one and been using it for four years now.

I just love it that you can heat up a dinner in it in only two minutes!

If you're over 80, DVR sounds too much like DNR (do not resuscitate).

My mother used to tell me I was driving her crazy. I'll see her tomorrow (in her assisted-living home).... I just hope she recognizes me (she's getting EXTREMELY forgetful lately). \:\(

That's so sad \:\( I'm assuming Alzheimer's - is she on that new med, or is she passed that point? \:\( My best friend's dad (whom I call "dad") was recently diagnosed. Very sad disease...

She's on a lot of different meds... she's fading in spite of them. She has some lucid moments and some that are off-the-wall. I'm usually depressed after seeing her.

I'm really happy that she got to meet one of my friends at Thanksgiving. She enjoyed that! Little things like that mean a lot now.

SC,

I am sorry to hear your mother is not well. \:\( Alzheimer's has always been one sickness that is especially sad, probably more for the family than the victim. I will pray for her and you and your family.

Aw, SC, I hope that your visit went well. My SIL's father was just diagnosed, and it's very sad. They brought her parents along for Christmas Eve, and even though I just saw them in August, I was shocked at how far he's gone downhill since them.

I'm sorry to hear this, SC. It can be very trying.

Unfortunately, my family has much experience in this - on both sides of my family. My paternal grandmother lived the last 15 years of her life in senility from the disease. My Uncle Jack, her oldest, lived with her, and would have to drive her to "her mother's" every night 4-5 times at all hours. Her mother had died 50 years earlier, and when she would see the vacant lot where her mother's house was, she'd be good...for ten minutes or two hours.

Re: Alzheimer's

One of my cousins (who's about 20 years older than I am) was diagnosed with Alzheimer's about 6 months ago.

This lady was the kind who went out of her way to say hello to you, always had a smile on her face and genuinely a caring person. She was Godmother to my sister for her confirmation.

My sister told me she had just seen her a couple weeks before I arrived in Michigan. My sister said when she went up to her to say hello, she looks in my sister's eyes and says, "I should know you shouldn't I?" \:\( She's trying so hard. My sister explained who's daughter she was and pointed out my parents.

She is the first person, related that has been stricken with Alzheimers. If I were filfthy rich and wanted to put millions behind a disease, for some reason this disease would make me want to contribute to a cure. It's just plain horrible.

I genuinely think that loss of one's "mind" is the most frightening prospect one can conjure. The total eradication of non-positional thought. In essence, if memory constitutes our existence, what happens once you lose it?

Agreed. It's a scary concept to fathom.I would rather be put out of my misery if that happened to me.Especially if you can't remember your friends or family.

But you may not realize you've lost your mind once you've lost it. So you'd only be bothersome to others while you are happy as can be, or so I would hope.

Speaking of losing minds, what does it mean when I keep finding a single black ant walking around on the toilets/urinals of public restrooms? I've seen one at a time, about five different times, in the last week at different places. It's starting to freak me out.
