Tony was willing to stop at nothing to get what he wanted in life. Tony would never be happy working for someone as his personality was to be the leader and have it all. Manny on the other hand would have been very content with a job. We see that in several scenes, including the one where Omar is in the car and wants to pay them peanuts for the columbian drug deal. It's Tony who argues with Omar and gets them more money for the job and Manny gets annoyed with Tony for taking on Omar. When the job is done it's Tony who is the one who tells Omar that he ( Tony ) will take the money and the coke directly to Frank himself. When they are in Franks house it's TOny who is impressed with what Frank had, Tony who is looking around the house and spot Elvira. At that very moment Tony realized what he wanted, what he had to have, including Elvira, and would stop at nothing to get to the top. Many was a follower, Tony a leader.
