A Save is really worth 3 points: +8 for the save, and -5 for the privilege. (I still find that awkward ) The problem is a Botched Save (-5) + Loss (-6) in an inning or less of work where the guy is already getting penalized for ERs and hits and walks, etc, for him to lose the game to begin with. That's how relievers (and our stats) get into trouble.
A starter can pitch great into the 8th inning, then give up 1 run and lose it. He'll still get decent points, but not great points. A relieve (set-up guy OR closer) can pitch great for the first two batters, then fall apart, give up 1 run, botch the save, lose the game, and when it comes down to it, one bad pitch can nose-dive us into negative points!
In the end, it doesn't really matter because we're all playing with the exact same points system, but something just seems wrong....
But since Plaw and others put infinitely more time and energy into the points system than I have, I'll just keep my mouth shut.
I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! lol
