I'm not sure but I don't think we have a soup thread her, sooooo.....
I had a nice bowl of Yankee Bean soup for lunch today at a local diner (seriously, I'm not making a fart joke here).
Anyway, it occurs to me that I could live on soup if I had to. Vegetable soups, bean soups, beef soups, chicken soups. You name it, I like it. I actually had a sauerkraut soup at a German pub not long ago and I loved it. Split pea? Looks like snot, tastes great, gimme a bowl. Chowdah? In the words of Emeril Lagasse, "Oh, yeah, babe."
Like I said, I really never met a soup I didn't like.
Anyone else?

I love it, too. I made a killer pea soup once, I should do it again. In fact, I always thought I'd love to open up something like Atlanta Bread Company with gourmet soups and sandwiches, only better. My favorite soups are New England clam (or fish) chowder, Cream of (almost anything), lentil, split pea, "baked" potato, and good ol' chicken or turkey soup. Real and fresh are best, but if it's canned, Progresso is the way to go. Campbell's (red/white label condensed at least) is ONLY good for recipes IMHO. It's unfortunate that so many casual restaurants have shitty canned soup. But perhaps the best casual restaurant soup is Olive Garden's Zuppa Toscana (spicy sausage, russet potatoes and cavolo greens in a creamy broth) -- awesome!

There are certain soups that I really like, but it's a short list. Maybe because it's too many ingredients mixed together!
Lobster or crab bisque, cream of broccoli, matzoh ball, Italian wedding, stracciatella (sp?), New England Clam Chowder, and chicken soup. Those are my favorites. And my mom makes a spinach and red bean soup that's terrific. I also enjoy making pea soup after we have a ham.
PB, did you ever have the Butternut Squash Soup at The Black Whale in City Island? It's delicious.

Once in a blue moon I'll get in the mood for a minestrone or a homemade split pea soup. And every once in a while I'll have a matzah ball soup if I go to a Jewish deli. The soups that I really enjoy and will have more than any other are French Onion, Cheddar Potato soup, Lobster or Shrimp Bisque and Chinese restaurant soups : Hot & Sour, Special House soup, Yaka Mein or Wonton Egg Drop mixed with fried Wontons.

Ironically, I made French Onion soup today. Shop-Rite had a sale and with a coupon you got a 3lb bag of onions free -- I wouldn't use that in a month (if they stayed fresh that long) so, only other thing to do is make a big pot of french onion soup! The recipe is super simple too, it came out pretty good!

Manhattan Clam Chowder for lunch today I just can't like Manhattan. I only like New England Clam Chowder. I'm sure yours was good, though.

Becky loves clam chowder. I've never had it. You're allergic to shell fish, aren't you? Also I really like my Mother-in-laws Cream of Potato. You have to try it with melted cheddar cheese. Just make sure the soup is really hot and drop in some shredded cheddar cheese. It's delicious.

Yeah. This guy who sells soup in a small storefront in Manhattan gained fame and popularity over the years. He was known for having truly great soups... he was also known for being an extremely rude man (as an example, if you ordered your soup and paid him, and didn't move directly to the left - to keep the line moving - he wouldn't serve you). The tv show "Seinfeld" did an episode on him (calling him the 'Soup Nazi') and the name stuck (in real life) much to the owner's chagrin.

Sounds like a gentle, patient kind of a fella Who cares though if his soup is as good as you say? Ever since the "Seinfeld" episode aired, the lines to his store have been very long. It became a New York experience to get "dumped on" by this guy. And, yes, his soup IS that good!!

There's also one at Grand Central, right next to, and I swear this is true, a Mendy's.
There are quite a few local businesses that owe that tv show for free advertising. Isabella's and Pomodoro, both on the upper west side, to name a couple of more.
On the SEINFELD dvd extras, there's a funny story about Jerry taking the crew to the original location on 55th St one day as a joke, against the advice of his writers, who knew the owner was genuinely angered about his depiction on tv.
The owner---Al Yeganah (soup nazi), allegedly WENT OFF on Jerry, demanding an apology, because he didn't want to be famous. Jerry gave him a half-hearted sacrcastic apology and walked out.

I put cheddar chesse on chili along with sour cream and frito's.
