According to the interview with Mario on Larry King(I found the transcript online) That was his stepfather's last name. They had later changed it to Cleri but Mario used the original in the Last Don.

Speaking of Coppolas, for a long time there was an "album rock" DJ in New York--Mark Coppola--who is, I think, a cousin. He was on WNEW FM, and may still be around
