ONE IN FOUR NEW YORKERS HAS HERPES: STUDY

June 9, 2008 --

A city Health Department study finds that more than a fourth of adult New Yorkers are infected with the virus that causes genital herpes.

The study, released Monday, says about 26 percent of New York City adults have genital herpes, compared to about 19 percent nationwide.

The department says genital herpes can double a person's risk for contracting HIV.

Herpes can cause painful sores, but most people have no recognizable symptoms.

Among New Yorkers, the herpes rate is higher among women, black people and gay men.

The health department urges consistent use of condoms, and says its STD clinics offer free, confidential herpes testing.

I've been eating so many garden salads lately I'm goona turn into a rabitt.

You Brits won't believe what I've just read on MSN Money.

The DVLA has made £15million by selling the names and addresses of every one who has a car.

Its so they can chase up on drivers who trespass on private land, and stay too long in supermarket, hospital carparks etc.

The Big Brother society is getting more insidious and greedy.

If a major criminal got all these car details, he would know where in Britain all the high powered cars were.

My 13 year old son has been spending quite a bit of time at Hershey Park with his friends since school let out. Because we live 10-15 minutes from the park, he, like many of the kids, has a season pass.

During a rain delay in his baseball game yesterday, he and some of the guys from his team were talking about going to the park today. He asked me on the way home whether he could use his own money to buy a ticket for a particular friend on the team, whose family couldn't afford the ticket (a day pass runs about $46). I told him that I'd buy his ticket.

My wife and a couple of the other moms got the idea that a season's pass is about as much as three tickets, so they decided to chip in and surprise the boy with a pass. She and the group of friends took the boy to the sales office pretending that that was where his ticket was waiting.

My wife just called me to say that he had no idea why he was asked to sit and have his photo taken. When he realized that he was getting a season pass, he burst into tears.

That's awesome klyd. The feel good story of the week.

The number of CCTV cameras in the UK are increasing, and there seem to be more 'mistakes' made by the Government.

Thank you, all, but I'm not as nice as you think. Joking, I told my wife that if we don't tell the boy's mom that 5 families put in for the pass, maybe she and I could get the credit.

Seriously, this boy is a great kid, who has had a lot of heartbreak in his life. He lives with his younger sister and mother, a wonderful lady, who works two jobs. She is separated from their dad, who is in prison and up for parole in 2010. His sister has had some health issues. His mom said that she could by one season pass, but couldn't do it for one and not the other, so she'll get a pass for her daughter this week.

We live in a culture where we tend to only hear bad news. That is a great story Klydon and a great lesson in generosity. I'm sure your children will file that away in their memory banks as well as the boy who receive the pass. Well done!
