In the book do they go into detail how Hagen joined the family or to they gloss over it like they do in the movie ?

First I suggest to read it of course smile

And yes, the book is somewhat more specific. It gives you the reasons why he was adopted, what happened to his parents. It isn't much more, but it's something.

First of all welcome to the BB! And a good question to start off. To answer, the book gives a lot more detail into not only Tom's background, but characters such as Luca Brasi and Johnny Fontaine. (Brasi's background, as well as Neri's, is fantastic, but I--with many others on here--find Fontaine's character follow up to be tedious and irrelevant to the story.)

Well they say how he join the family,why he didn't change his surname,about when he started work for Vito... The book is great.
