Merch is outta hand...! But that is how bands make most of their money...
What's sad, is that in my opinion, Tom Petty is a fucking hack, and he's charging three-to-four times as much for a t-shirt than some much more innovative bands. I don't think stature in the rock world should have a single fucking thing to do with it. It's just disgusting, it's the perfect example of music becoming a supply and demand commodity.
But I fucking hate big rock concerts, as I've stated before. I'd rather pay ten or twenty bucks to stand in a tiny room that smells like vomit, with 1,000 people that also smell like vomit.
