Only in San Francisco does one need a sweatshirt in June. I was always amazed since I was a kid watching the Phillies playing in old candlestick Park on tv in July and August to see the fans bundled up in coats, gloves and hats.ing big hits on occasion and showing a rocket arm at third. San Francisco can get sooo cold for the night games with that fog that comes in. Candlestick was the worst though. Not only is the stadium located on one of the coldest windiest spots in San Francisco but the old style stadium didn't allow the wind to pass on through so it became like a hurricane of cold wind and food wrappers and garbage circulating around the stadium. They used to hand out these "Croix de Candlestick" pins to the fans who stayed for the full game. I was so sad when they built a new stadium because I grew up in Candlestick, but Candlestick had to be one of the worst stadiums and the new stadium has to be one of the most beautiful in baseball and has become the place I'd rather be than anywhere else. There's nothing better than being at a major league ball game with a hot dog and a beer. Especially if it is a Dodger game where I can boooo my lungs out at the Dodger fans around me

There's nothing better than being at a major league ball game with a hot dog and a beer. Minor league games are fun, too. Saw the Lakewood BlueClaws (Phillies Single-A team; the logo is Beth E's avatar ) last Friday and maybe again tomorrow. So nice that it's only 20 minutes away.

I'm sorry to say that the Giants are manhandling my pathetic Indians. Eleven game loser Barry Zito looked like Cy Young against the hapless, inept Indians hitters last night. It is good to see Omar Vizquel back in town - the best defensive shortstop I have ever seen. Goombah (and Mignon I think?), I'm officially a fan of Cleveland fans. What a classy organization. As you can imagine the last few years we have loved Omar Vizquel here in the Bay Area, even though he's on the decline. It was great to see the Indians play a tribute video of Omar highlights playing as one of the Tribe, and the non-stop standing ovations for him shows how much the fans love and appreciate the past as much as "what have you done for me lately". Cleveland seems like a great baseball town, am I wrong? I would love to visit there someday to see a game. Win or lose, going to a ballgame always makes for a fun time, doesn't it? Gina - so true, but a win is so much sweeter isn't it?

I agree that it was a classy gesture with how the front office honored Vizquel. He's better at 41 than that worthless hack, Jhonny Peralta, that we have now who is maybe 26. The organization did something similar for Sandy Alomar the year after he left. To be honest, I'd take a little less class and gladly trade it for a championship. We do have a great baseball town, as evidenced by our 455 consecutive sellout streak at Jacobs Field from 1995-2001. This town went insane, particularly in 1995 when we made it back to the World Series for the first time in 41 years. Having said all that, Cleveland has been, is, and will always be, a football town first and foremost. But we rabidly support all three of our major teams.

Another oddity:
Through baseball-reference.com I came across a double header between the Red Sox and Indians in Cleveland on 4/12/1992, in which the Tribe won the first game, 2-0, despite not recording a hit off Matt Young. The Sox scattered 9 hits, but couldn't score.
In the second game the Indians lost, 3-0, and only recorded two hits in 9 innings: a Carlos Baerga single in the first, and Glenallen Hill's third inning single. Again the Red Sox had 9 hits
2 games, 2 hits, 1 win.

This is a cool site where you can simulate games using past teams against each other. NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAA Football, NCAA Basketball

For the few NBA fans here I'm sure you can feel my pain. Baron Davis opted out of his contract late last night and has already verbally agreed to a contract with the Clippers. This is bad. There was hopes that the Warriors were going to improve to an elite level but now Chris Mullin is going to have to pull off a miracle just to keep the Warriors good. It will definitely be a huge blow to the Warriors but I heard they have made a big offer to Elton Brand. Although there is no guarantee that Brand will accept the offer (which I heard is in the neighbourhood of 90 mill. not sure over how many years) and he may very well stay with the Clippers who should be much improved next season with the addition of Davis.

Why are the Cincinnati Reds wearing camaflouge jerseys? Those are so gay. I think they're too feminine to even be mentioned in The Ladies thread.

SC, I heard it mentioned on our broadcast, but only through one source, I believe. Milwaukee Sentinel, I think? Anyway, no certain confirmation that I know of. If true, it's gonna make for a tighter race in our division!
Our game was supposed to start at 12:30 PM (Central) today, got stuck in a long rain delay, and we just lost it now, in the 17th inning. 5 hours and 35 minutes...talk about an all-day affair.
A few innings back, we had an interesting event. Ausmus was at bat and was called out on a strikeout when the ball fouled off his bat, hit the catcher's shoulder, flipped around in his hands, and eventually was caught by him in his glove. Ausmus had an argument, which our announcers later discussed. Quoting the rulebook, it turns out that the ball cannot be caught on a rebound like that, because it must first hit the glove. So in this case, having hit the shoulder first, it could not be caught for an out. The HP umpire asked for help, but as our guys said, since nobody else saw otherwise, it couldn't be overruled. That'd be a case for instant replay. I was interested in learning the details of that rule, which I'd never known fully.
