Actor Morgan Freeman hospitalized at The MED after serious car accident

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Academy Award winning actor Morgan Freeman was involved in a serious car accident Sunday night in north Mississippi.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesperson Ben Williams said Freeman and a female passenger were traveling eastbound on Mississippi Highway 32 in Tallahatchie County when his vehicle went off the edge of the road. Freeman overcorrected, flipping his 1997 Nissan Maxima several times before coming to a rest.

Emergency crews extracted Freeman and his passenger from their vehicle using the jaws of life. According to Williams, they were both airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, where Freeman was listed in serious condition Monday morning.

The condition of Freeman's passenger has not been released.

Freeman, who won an Academy Award for his performance in 2004's Million Dollar Baby, is a co-owner of the Ground Zero Blues Club in Memphis. He currently stars in the Batman sequel The Dark Knight.

Morgan is a quality actor. I recently saw him in Evan Almighty which isn't that great of a movie, but his performance was pretty good. He's the kind of actor that can lend credibility to an otherwise mundane film.

What I don't enjoy is when the media wastes their time. Let's put it this way; if you were to get into a car accident of equal, or even greater severity, would anyone give a shit? No. Only your friends and family.

Morgan Freeman, despite how talented he may be, gets into a car accident, and everyone starts ejaculating all over the place. I don't understand it. A bunch of kids could be burning alive in the the wreckage of a derailed subway car for all we know, but no; The dude from The Bucket List saved a bunch of money by switching to Geico. Awesome.

It's not news, it's an everyday occurance. Yet, the unhealthy but common belief that celebrities are special drives us into discussion that resembles invasion of privacy.

I love Morgan Freeman, too. I think he's one of our greatest living actors. But I know where LLC is coming from. Unfortunately, celebrity obsession just tends to get bigger and bigger with each passing generation.

There are many people that I care about regardless of whether I know them personally or not. Morgan Freeman is one such person. If I deem that they have contributed to my life then I may want to know about what good and bad things happen to them. There is nothing about Morgan Freeman that diminishes the value of his life, what he does, and what happens to him just because he makes films.

Morgan Freeman is in good spirits and is planning to have surgery after sustaining injuries in a car accident Sunday night, the actor's rep said in a statement Monday afternoon.

"He has a broken arm, broken elbow and minor shoulder damage but he is in good spirits," said Donna Lee. "He is going to have surgery this afternoon or tomorrow to correct the damage. He says he'll be okay and is looking forward to a full recovery."

The Dark Knight actor, 71, was listed in "serious" condition after a late-night car accident. Freeman was driving in Tallahatchie County when the accident happened at about 11:30 p.m., according to Mississippi Highway Patrol. He was removed from the wreck using the jaws of life, then airlifted from the accident scene to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis.

A passenger, identified by police as Demaris Meyer, was also in the car with Freeman.

Wait, I agree with LLC on the point that we all go nuts over a beloved actor getting into a car crash. If he had died then I would be right there with everyone being sad. I was right there with everyone in shock when Heath Ledger died suddenly. But Freeman is alive and should be well. I wouldn't say LLC is being annoying just because he is reacting to your reaction SC.

I'm speaking up because I'm worried. Last time you got threatening like this DVC was no more. Now, LLC is not DVC but the tone in your typing worries me. I don't want to see someone else go because of differing opinions.
