You're sure we're thinking of the same CNN? You don't mean like, People Magazine, or some other unneeded publication?
It's breaking news because it's just being reported ... that's what breaking news means.
All the major networks are carrying the story. You may not like him (and judging from your response I suspect you don't) but Morgan Freeman is a major star and I think a story like this is newsworthy here.
In the general scheme of things in today's world it may not be of major importance, but lets's not forget we're a board designed to discuss movies (among other things).
