Today I was driving down a nearby road with a pick up truck driving 75 feet in front of me in the same direction. An adult doe ran in front of the pik up and was hit squrely in the hind. The impact sent a spray of twisted metal and shattered glass over the road, and also lifted the large deer about 15 feet in the air, spinning furiously sideways. It appeared that a significant portion of its hind quarter detatched before the carcass landed off the opposite side of the road about 30 feet from the point of impact. Nobody was hurt (except, of course, for the deer), but there was a great deal of damage to the truck.

Keep me updated on this; I'm all for getting together for a meeting if you're interested.

That's awful, and the damage to the truck must be terrible. Yet, be thankful you weren't hurt.

I remember the days back in Michigan when occasionally driving from our cottage, we'd see a deer run across the road, or a dead deer to the side of the road. Sometimes these things are unavoidable. You just don't see it coming.

There seem to be so many recently. And this happened in a residential area. I have seen them from my deck.

Almost three months ago, one darted in front of me while I was going about 75 mph. I swerved to the right, but at that speed when I turned back to the left I went spinning down the highway, fortunately and eventually stopping safely off the road...facing the opposite direction. That really got the heart pumping.

I try to be aware of deer in certain areas, but they dart out of the blue.

Wow, that really does, doesn't it? I did the same thing, but not because of a deer. A car was disabled in the left lane on a rainy, wet 3-lane highway bridge. I tapped my brakes to slow down and went flying/spinning to the right, narrowly missing the side of the bridge, then across 3 lanes to the other side, and ended up facing oncoming traffic, right behind the disabled vehicle! I was positioned as if I was gonna jump-start him! Yeah, a lucky day since I didn't hit anything, and no one hit me! (Yes, Guardian Angels exist! )

There's no feeling more helpless than spinning like that. You're in the hands of fate.

Mr. Babe has a saying about seeing deer by the side of the road - If you see one, bet there are more. Sure enough, I narrowly missed one darting across the highway, and the guy behind me hit the next one that stepped out onto the road. I also came fairly close to hitting a bear on my way to work a couple of years ago. It just meandered out onto the parkway and loped across the road.

Is the word "jerk" used synonymous to "stupid" or "asshole"? Or somewhere in between? Or a combination of both? I want to know how you use it, not the dictionary meaning (I found both connotations in dictionary). How offensive is it considered compared to those two words?
