None of you who criticize high gasoline prices ever state just what the price of gasoline should be. Some of you state that you are paying well over $4 per gallon. I just paid $3.67 per gallon. So, what should the price be. Would you be satisfied with $3.67 per gallon? If so, since I'm already paying that much, how much shold I be paying? $3.47? $3.25? How about last year's lowest price? What is the formula?
To whom does Exxon have a fiduciary responsibility? Why does Exxon or anyone who has something to sell owe you anything? I'm not an economist so I can't figure out the perfect number/price, but stable and predictable energy prices are in the national interest and it's a valid place for government intervention to remove the speculators from the equation. HOWEVER, I'm not completely for the intervention. The speculators are FORCING people to start thinking about these issues before they actually hit. It is accepted that India and China along with South East Asia will start increasing their demand for oil. Thus we need alternatives NOW before this happens.

It is accepted that India and China along with South East Asia will start increasing their demand for oil. Thus we need alternatives NOW before this happens. I concur...completely. In the world market, the USA driver has paid little for gasoline in the past. Low gas prices has allowed the car manufacturers to seduce the public into buying FAV (Fat Ass Vehicles) and we became a country of long distance commuters. Our "modern" society and culture was built around cheap gas. Now, through a combination of economic factors that I don't quite understand or comprehend, gas has double in price in a year or two and the gas culture is now a bit confused, angry and frustrated. Throw the mortgage debacle on top of that and the question;"what price should gas be?" is impertinent.

MC, That's a whole different story. The "gas crisis" and the "mortgage crisis" are only relevant in the fact that they're going to cost the average American a hell of a lot more money. Gasoline is essential to the current American way of life. Because of our current dependence on oil, our lack of public transportation and our passion for suburban sprawl, we are slaves to our automobiles. Therefore, our need for alternative fuels is immediate.
As for the housing crisis, why should I have to bail out these morons who couldn't read the fine print on their mortgage paperwork? Oh, you didn't understand that a variable rate mortgage meant that the rate VARIES??? Oh, you didn't understand that it was OK to buy a house with 2% down, wait until an artificially inflated market gave you pretend equity that you then leveraged to buy another house with NOTHING down, and now you can't sell either one of them for enough to pay off you loans, and this is somehow MY fucking fault???
Sorry, did I get off the subject of gas prices???

Hey, I only sell office and industrial space. Believe me, there certainly were days that I wish I was a residential agent!! Those days are gone, but they certainly made hay while the sun was shining!!
Edit: Btw, here's another thank you for the oil companies. The airlines have been adding fees for things like your luggage and so on. While on a Jet Blue flight last night, I complained to the flight attendant about the temperature in the plane, and told her that I was a bit chilly. I asked for a blanket. Her chirpy response, "Well, I can SELL you one for $7!"
Obviously, the ones who have to deal with the public are feeling the passenger wrath with these new policies, and are NOT liking it.

Of course they are different, but as you said, "a hell of a lot more money" coming out of the pocket. As for the housing crisis, why should I have to bail out these morons who couldn't read the fine print on their mortgage paperwork? These morons -- isn't that what government is for? To protect the average moron from harming themselves by dealing with money-hungry shylocks. It's an interesting psychology to tempt morons with a chance to own a home. Moron mentality is looking at the big, new home and not at the future of higher and higher monthly payments. Who do you blame - banks, govt, morons? What does this have to do with gas prices? It's one tangled ball of yarn.

It is not just the price of gas.... It is the prices of everything else that has gone up because the gas went up so high.....
I agree. Everyone is so hung up on gas, they don't even notice that a gallon of milk and a dozen eggs will set them back almost ten bucks.

$4.09 this morning. Maybe it will get below $4 again after all. $4.09? Where are you? I just paid $3.63. By the way, a gallon of milk around here is $3.20. I'm in New York City, Olivant. But you already knew that. Gas hasn't been under $4 here in over two months. A gallon of milk is roughly $4 here.

Gas - $3.62 Name brand milk - $6.04
He - (Simón Bolívar) - was shaken by the overwhelming revelation that the headlong race between his misfortunes and his dreams was at that moment reaching the finishing line. The rest was darkness. "Damn it," He sighed. "How will I ever get out of this labyrinth!" So what’s the labyrinth? That’s the mystery isn’t it? Is the labyrinth living or dying? Which is he trying to escape - the world, or, the end of it?

Gas now £1.10 in the UK. A drop of 2 pence no less The recession must be over eh? A 4 pint carton of milk here is just over a pound!

It is not just the price of gas.... It is the prices of everything else that has gone up because the gas went up so high..... Will you see prices roll back once the gas drops... I don't think so. Now that is where you start to fell the pinch.
Wait...wait. How long have you been back? The US relies heavily on trucking to move goods around, so yea, high fuel prices will result in higher prices on food and other goods.
