It's not always easy having to deal with the pain in the ass public. I hated working retail.

Wal-Mart was the worst place I've ever worked at, and I don't see how anywhere else could come close. I'd rather shovel manure for the same amount of money.

I worked at a Blockbuster. Heck, I'd rather shovel manure than dealing with people period lol

Yeah, that's true. I've worked other retail and it's not as bad but I am not a very social person so having me deal with the public is probably not a good idea.

I was a people person but not at Blockbuster. In my new job I'm more of myself again because I'm not dealing with the general public as much

Wow, Mig! eek lol

Do convenience stores count as retail? If so, I loved it -- especially the midnight shift! cool wink

True, and a store or a chain doesn't provide service or courtesy--people do. But, given the general level of courtesy and good service I've experiencd at that WM, I'd have to conclude that the management of that store is doing something right.
In general, I've found that nearly all employees of retail stores in this town give courteous service. I never get any attitude here--unlike in the NYC metro area, where attitude was the norm.

Couple of weeks ago, Walmart near my home decided to change their layout. It looks much more spacious now, but I don't know where things are located any more. I am so inertial to change ohwell

Speaking of spacious:
WM's "SuperStores" are gigantic, but since they have so many aisles and shelves that reach up so high, it's hard to get a feeling for just how big they are.
There's a furniture store in a mall near me that used to be a WM. Since it's now filled with sofas and chairs, and is laid out in a straight line, you get the feeling that the place falls off with the curvature of the earth in every direction. If they built an indoor running track around the inside periphery, it'd probably be two or three miles for each lap.

I'm not a big WM fan, but whenever I am there I notice parents abusing their children. Is there something about Wal Mart that brings this out in people?

Going to Wal-Mart is like taking a trip to a third world country. My wife and I expect this going in.

You've never been to one, right LN? grin Where do you guys come up with all these horror stories about Walmart? We have Albertsons, TomThumb, Target etc. near my home, but I don't see so much of a difference that you guys see. Except that walmart is cheaper and you get everything in the same place wink

When I first started working retail I loved it. I loved helping people out but you can only take so much of the public crying and whineing and some people you can't please no matter how hard you try.
