That scene was perfectly played but it always bothered me just a bit. Perhaps it's because I'm the oldest in my family but why should Tom have been so desperate that Michael accept him personally as a brother?

I mean Tom was what, eight or ten years older than Michael?
I can see Tom giving Michael all the professional courtesy (and more) due to a boss but why would he have lost too much sleep over whether his adopted kid brother really liked him or not?

It just seemed a little too puppy-dog like for a cool customer like Tom.

Maybe he still blamed himself (and thought Michael did as well) for Sonny's demise???

"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives."
Winter is Coming

Now this is the Law of the Jungle—as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.
