When my neighbor's son was three, she had a daughter. Her son had severe speech problems and she had a speech therapist come to the house every morning. Within the next year or two, his speech improved, but strangers often had a hard time understanding him. My neighbor said that his sister, now a toddler, was really bugging him all day, touching his toys, etc., in that annoying way that little sisters have.
Finally fed up, he blurted out, "Nicole, you've been up my ass all day!". His mom was alternately thrilled because he said it clear as a bell, and also wanted to die because it was obvious who he had learned the phrase from.

I am so freakin' exhausted, and it seems I have no time for myself lately. Between going to doctors here, and dentists* there... physical therapy here, and visiting homes for sale there... between family obligations and friends' crises... Fantasy sports here, and a few replies on the BB there. Mix in a few scattered blood tests and MRIs (what am I, 75?). Let alone any type of actual work or hobbies I have no time for.... Watching movies is my "relaxation", and I like to do that every night if I can (if I'm not out, which is kinda rare these days cuz it gets expensive). But my best friend drags me out now and then because he's stuck in his apartment all day long (the opposite of me lately) and he can't stand staying in -- and at this point I can't stand staying out! lol But tomorrow (Saturday)... I have NO plans whatsoever, and have declined everyone! TOMORROW IS GEOFFY DAY!! NO plans... NO leaving my apartment... NO shower, NO getting dressed, NO doing anything but, doing NOTHING! WOOHOO!!!! *Would you freakin' believe, it wasn't enough for me to go for a 4TH time for the same ONE damn root canal next week, but on top of that, the other day an old cap just FELL OUT for no goddamn reason??! So after the root canal I need TWO caps done?? So next week I have to (hopefully) finish the damn root canal, schedule an appt for the dentist for 2 caps, go to P/T three times, visit my PCP for the blood test results from today, visit some homes, research and sit through a live basketball draft (at least that's fun ), and God knows what else. Shit, I'm rambling now. So be it! Today, I had a P/T appointment in the early afternoon, then went for a blood test, then went to my nephew's football game (he's quarterback on his freshman HS team) which was in my folks' town so then we all went back there for a pleasant evening -- and to celebrate my other nephew's (and godson's) 12th birthday which I can't believe to begin with... Anyway... I'm sorry if I haven't been around much -- at least outside the Sports forum a few times. I've skimmed threads here and there, of course, but hopefully soon I'll be "back" enough to actually post more often. And I invite anyone else interested to celebrate "GEOFFY DAY" tomorrow by doing absolutely anything they want to -- and preferably NOTHING at all!!!! Me? I'm starting NOW!!

Geoff, I feel bad for you. You deserve to take a day off. I don't blame you one bit. Although thankfully I don't have health issues, I have had a hell of a work year thus far. I won't go into detail, but I could both cry and go bullistic at the same time. So, I too want a "relaxing" day. Yet, I have to get an oil change on my car today, which is the only "must do". But damn, getting an oil change on a car for a woman, is NOT anywhere near fun. As you are wating you have your choice of sports on tv, sports or other boring books on the table for you to read and, the possiblity of the mechanic saying you also need a new "this" or "that" cha ching type thing. Not fun!!! TIS

Oh, wah, wah, wah, Geoff!! BUCK UP!! Add a high-stress job that you hate, two teenagers, pets, laundry for four, and three and half baths that constantly need to be cleaned. Kwitcherbitchin!
And, btw, the pool needs to be closed for the season, so get your buns in gear.

Work cures all ills. He's whining?? Put him to work! That'll shut him up. I can't wait to retire. After the year I'm having thus far, I may just finish out this school year, I don't know. Everyone says, "you'll get bored" "you'll wanna work." I say, "wanna bet?" If I feel like sitting on my ass, I will. If I feel like keeping busy, I'll do that too, BUT work is Not fun and I will find another kind of busy. But yea, there are those who simply must work or do worklike things....Me, I'm not one of them. TIS

The first year was filled with alot of activity, then the drop-off. Yes, it did become boring. You can only play with the grandkids so much and there are only a certainamoutn of things you always wanted to do. So, I teach to help take up the time. Still, there's alot of timeleft over. So think twice about retiring especially if you are in good health. My wife stays pretty busy with the kids, grandkids, and traveling. But I look for things to do to occupy me. Don't retire because you are tired; do it because it's the right time to do so.

Good points, Olivant. I retired (actually took a withdrawal card) from the Teamsters as soon as I got my 25 years in. I'm only 49, so I decided to "freeze' my pension, by waiting until I'm at least 55 to collect, when it will be worth almost twice what it is now. But that's neither here nor there. I manage to keep very busy by managing my properties; and being a "hands on" landlord. I travel as much as I can and really enjoy my life. Still, there are just days when I really miss "the grind." Oh yeah, Internet boards help, too.

Yes, they are good points Olivant and ones I definitely have heard. For me, this year, I lost a cousin, a former brother-in-law and almost lost a brother, all of whom are in my age group. I do NOT want to die working. I'm telling you, I'm diferrent than most. I WILL enjoy it. Btw, I only wish I was retired now. I'd be doing campaign work here in CA for Obama campaign. I know that's only a temporary type thing, and certainly something most people don't want to do, but I would. Maybe in four years if all works out ad if I'm still around. TIS

My big "day off" was nice! Slept 'til like Noon without guilt... got online and skimmed the BB, then skimmed my fantasy choices for the weekend... made my usual wrong picks in ESPN's Streak for the Cash game (I wish it just involved nudity and running, cuz otherwise I'm doing horribly!)... hell, not even sure what else, and don't even care! The idea was doing "nothing"! Oh yeah, searched online for properties -- the same old ones I've been seeing for weeks already. Tonight I watched "The Wire: Season 1: Disc 2", then the end of the BoSox/Rays game, and then the latest episode of Life on Mars on the DVR. And after a couple other random things ended up back here, where it all begins! A nice day!
