For what reason are you a vegetarian? If you don't mind me asking.

My particular sub-sub-sect (lol) of Hinduism prevents people from eating meat. It is not true for everyone following Hinduism. Since I come from a conservative religious family and was a believer until I was about 20, I had never tried any animal products, including egg till then. Later I have tried tasting all sorts of meat, but don't relish eating any of it. I guess I am a slave to habit. Plus I can make awesome (Indian) vegetarian food. There are hundreds of great tasting veggie dishes.

You're getting carried away. There'd be no reason to exhume the body.

I guess I missed this thread for some reason. When I think of Veterans Day, I think of my Dad, who is a Korean War veteran (Purple Heart and Bronze Star). I had lunch with him and a few of his buddies at a VFW Post up in Yonkers the other day. Spend five minutes with these people and you'll never even joke about not supporting the troops again.

I don't know, LLC. I've stuck up for you time after time in the past and now I feel like a horse's ass. I'm thinking that you probably just made your post to get a rise out of some of the older posters here, but some things are in such poor taste, that you just shouldn't even joke about them.

You can say or post whatever you want in this country because of your First Amendment privilege. You have have a First Amendment privilege because we are a free country. We are a free country because of the troops that you so callously insult.

I've been as outspoken as anyone about the Bush administration and the war in Iraq, yet I have nothing but gratitude and respect for the young men and women who are making it possible for me to do so many of the things that you seem to take for granted. Do you think that you could say or post what you please in a country like, say, Cuba, or so many of the war torn countries in the Middle East?

You only get to make these ridiculous posts because the troops, who you so blithely dismiss, are making it possible for you to do so.

Getting back on point, someone mentioned tht November 11 seems to have become lost in the shuffle of holidays. I suspect this is because unlike other hlidays they didn't include this one to be on a Monday. I guess Memorial Day will have to do as the big one in the U.S. BTW when was Memorial Day instituted?

I believe it was right after the Civil War. It used to be called Decoration Day.

"Not no more"? That must've been the day they taught double negatives.

It's kind of sad that the holiday has been relegated to a minor one. That ties in with my "Space 'Em Out" theory, though. Look on a calendar for the "major holidays"... they're spaced out fairly evenly. After New Year's (not including MLK Day) we have President's Day (a combination of Washington and Lincoln's birthdays; they were separate holidays when I was a kid). OK, that's about six weeks. Then you have a lag (not including Easter) until Memorial Day (now a three day weekend). Wait 5 weeks for Independence Day. You go through the summer without a holiday (but that's when most people will vacation anyway) until Labor Day. Not counting Columbus Day as a major holiday we then wait until Thanksgiving and then, of course, Christmas.

We're due for a big holiday in March and October.

One of the great "holidays" celebrated in Boston is September 17th "Half way to St. Patrick's Day."

Not that it is, or will be a holiday, but 9/11/01 is fresh in our minds. There are memorials and ceremonies. I wonder if the same thing happened in the years that followed Pearl Harbor Day? Time and generations can cloud the memory. Maybe we have to invent a catchall day, like - Freedom Day.
