In NY, we have to get our cars inspected every year. They check your tires, make sure all your lights are functional, and check the emissions. It's a pain.

This sounds a little different than a smog check. Any car 4 years or older needs a smog check every other year. That, it seems, is the emission test like you guys indicate. As far as I know they don't check tires or anything else. The test itself, is around 80/100 and that's if there are no repairs to be made. Most places waive the initial test fee if you need repairs (so kind of them) . It is a pain for sure.

We don't have a sticker to put on the car either. therefore no official would know if it was due or had a smog test or not. Bummer for SC having to show the sticker.

BTW, California has smog checks because of the smog, why do you have them back East? Is smog an issue there like it is here too? I just thought CA was the only State that did smog checks.

NJ is every two years. That makes it more difficult to remember, but surely is more pleasant.

Those counties/states without vehicle emissions and safety checks are ass-backwards if you ask me.

TIS, it's more of a general pollution thing. I think every state should require it, as well as making sure your car is safe enough to be on the road (wheel alignment, working lights, good brakes, valid papers, etc). We don't pay for inspections, and cannot believe they make you do it -- ours are state run, so it's free, but you most likely need to wait in line for a loooong-ass time when it's busy.

In VA I think we had to pay 10 bucks for the safety inspection. I hated to do that every year. That was a pain in the tuchus/wazoo.

It cost $37.50 in Texas.

TIS, since you live in CA, see if you can answer this for me. Johnny Carson used to make fun of places in CA like Oxnard and Encino. There seem to be a million cities out there. What are they like? What is considered to be the real hellhole of CA (besides East LA)? What cities wouldn't you mind living in and which ones definitely not? I'm not taling about the bigger ones like SF or SD or Sacremento.

I can't begin to tell you how badly I want a ShamWOW.

He should be MVP this season, without him we'd easily be 2-9 or so. The Colts plates are an extra $40. Even more for something like QB 18, or WR 87 and whatnot. I think they auctioned those. I got a regular one so my letters are just WN followed by 4 numbers.
