I think Jimmy was a rat. When Silvio and Chris had him at gunpoint where they taunt him by saying he should call for help on his microphone(wire), Jimmy never denied it so it is likely that he was an informant. When Jimmy is about to be executed, his reaction is more "Oh no!". I figured if he wasn't a rat, he'd be denying it. Given that he said "Mother of God", and "Oh my God" under his breath in a serious way and didn't deny being a rat when he was at gunpoint, it likely was true that Jimmy was an informant.
Plus the other reasons to support my suspicion include the questions Jimmy was asking Tony about the Colombian heist in the basement after his release, his quick release from jail on bail after being busted when the FBI finds a pool table full of guns and Jimmy had other charges already against him as Tony alludes to, the meeting with the admin/capos where it is apparent to everyone else Jimmy is acting odd, and when Jimmy was trying to get Junior to talk about the Brendon hit is another tipoff.
But this is one of those David Chase things we will never know as it has never been explicitly revealed whether Jimmy was a rat or not.

Tommy Shots: They want me running the family, don't they know I have a young wife? Sal Vitale: (laughs) Tommy, jump in, the water's fine.

What about Larry Boy Barese?
Frank Costello: Fucking rats. It's wearing me thin. Mr. French: Francis, it's a nation of fucking rats.

What about Larry Boy Barese? Larry Barese was picked up by the feds and was forced to sing about the murder of Willie Overall. Instead of saying it was Tony, he blamed it on Jackie Aprile Sr. who was already dead. Because Larry gave false info to the agents, he was not killed. Anyway, add Febby Petrulio.

Forced? What does that even mean? He talked to the fed about a murder. That means he is a rat.

It means he had no other choice in his opinion. I agree with your point and if this was a real life matter, it would be very unlikely that he would be left off the hook. He would have been killed for sure. I'll write what I wrote above again: He could have told the truth and been put into the Witness Protection Program very easily but Larry was dedicated to the mob so he chose to instead say it was someone else who whacked Overall. He straight up lied to the government. I suggest you actually watch The Sopranos though, that way you can see the relationship between Tony and Larry.

"I suggest you actually watch The Sopranos though, that way you can see the relationship between Tony and Larry." I am not gonna get into an argument with anyone on this board, becasue it is a waist of time. That being said, I have seen every episode of the sopranos 2 or three times. I know very well the episode with willie overall, it was just on HBO on monday. There are different degrees of rats, I suppose it goes from allocution all the way to full blown WITSEC sammy the bull style. That being said, I think that Larry was a rat, if he talked to the feds about the murder, he did for leniency. It is a slippery slope.
