Well, I admit was blow drying my hair during the first part of the press conference, BUT I muted the tv and read the subtitles. Very well prepared and very detailed. What a great change of pace of what we were use to. Anyway, I read that he spent 7 minutes each answering the first few questions. I am no financial wizard and find it somewhat confusing to a degree, but he seemed to answer in clear convincing answers and much detail. TIS

XDC, what is your avatar? I can't see it
He - (Simón Bolívar) - was shaken by the overwhelming revelation that the headlong race between his misfortunes and his dreams was at that moment reaching the finishing line. The rest was darkness. "Damn it," He sighed. "How will I ever get out of this labyrinth!" So what’s the labyrinth? That’s the mystery isn’t it? Is the labyrinth living or dying? Which is he trying to escape - the world, or, the end of it?

I am no financial wizard and find it somewhat confusing to a degree, but he seemed to answer in clear convic answers and much detail. TIS I think whenever he was asked questions that he wasn't expecting, like which Middle-Eastern countries have nukes* or the military coffins issue, you could tell that it took a good minute or two of him rambling to remember his talking point. Its like cramming for a test, it takes you time to come back to mind the answer. But for the part which Americans only cared about, THE STIMULUS, I thought he sold it pretty well. I mean his argument for wanting to spend $$$ to refurbish government buildings to be more environmentally efficient made good common sense, which is what he's been probably lacking so far. Still I'm with TIS, its nice that we have a President who seems to at least act like he understands what he's talking about, an issue that most of us don't really fully comprehend, or want to quite honestly. Hell, its weird after the Dubya Epoch to have Professor Obama giving his lecture, isn't it? *=Israel, and maybe Iran

It's not a piece of writing meant to seem intelligent or literate, it's an exclamation.

Will Joe Scarborough please shut up? The guy has been in office three weeks and he and his cronies have already declared Obama Jimmy Carter the Second. ANd Scarborough does this by comparing Obama's performance to his performance as some podunk congressman 15 years ago. Unlike many of his brothers and sisters, Scarborough after the Gallup and other polls revealed public support for both the President and the Stimulus did admit that "Maybe we overanalyzed this." Compare that with the GOP who thinks they've won from becoming irrelevant.* Anyway, Obama aint Carter II because: (1) Obama didn't get his ass own by the Congressional Liberals of his party like Carter did. (2) That whole epic "bi-partisanship" game that Obama played has, if polling is to be believed, put him above the fray of both parties in Congress, which the public despise (though more GOP than Dems, but not by much). Carter had a problem of being dragged through the D.C. Game, which Obama was able to escape. (3) The GOP has no Reagan-giant waiting in the shadows for the next election. Dubya has really left conservatism (especially social conservative-fueld NeoCons) tainted in both economics and foreign affairs, and really if GOP picks Sarah Palin in 2012 to give that same speech again of Reagan/Dubya... Then I see Palin 2012 being Mondale 1984. *=Its nice that GOP Moderates, that each of their votes is more powerful than 20 GOP Conservative ballots COMBINED.

Overseas like Obama because
(1) He aint Dubya
(2) Canada/Western Europe all don't have a leader as charismatic or larger than life or...unique. They all are bland. Hell even in the recent Israeli elections, people there bitched about the lame choices they had.
(3) In those same Democracies, none of them have as powerful or transformative minority politician that could seriously become the next Prime Minister or Chancellor or whatever by appealing both to those ethnic groups, but also to the whites as well. To put it another way, a good Obama metaphor for Germany would be a Turk, or in France be a North African Black or Arab*, and in UK be the blacks or Asians.
But alot of those fiercely nationalist cultural nations, like France who are proudly homogenous as white, Catholic, Francophiles...I just wonder how a minority candidate could ever prevail over that to win the prize. Still, a Turkish German Chancellor would be great, if as the final insult to Hitler's grave.
*=Well one of the socialist parties in France is led by an Arab-Franco, so that's something I guess.
