6 Days and still no cigarette. Also, I had a big gig on too this weekend and managed to just keep marching on and ignoring my thoughts. Got home and realized I had made it without a smoke while drinking. I think I've got this.

GREAT job, Whisper!! It's actually been 6 cig-free days for me, too, but certainly not nicotine-free (gum gum gum gum lol) -- haven't smoked since I left NJ last Tuesday, and while I've had a few opportunities here, I've decided to not have one while in Florida. Well, I MAY at the airport, we'll see.

But I'll tell you one thing, the same thing the last time I stopped: You have NO idea how much you REEK of it! It's pretty damned disgusting smelling it on someone else -- and you really don't notice it until you stop. (Smoke itself smells wonderful, though ). I had "fresh clean clothes" that I had just washed, and to me smelled great -- and kept in my bedroom (with the rest of my clothes, and I don't smoke in my bedroom), and they still reeked once I got them into a smoke-free environment. Even my SHOES stunk!

There is at least one thing I'm going to stop doing (if I can't manage to quit altogether), is that I really gotta stop smoking in my apartment -- it must stink like nobody's business in there! I'll surely find out later tonight.

I haven't drank that much here, either, and didn't really miss it much. The best thing, for me at least, is a change in environment and routine when trying to "rehab" for anything...

Trouble is, eventually I gotta go back and my best intentions usually get sucked away in no time. But you're younger and stronger -- hang in there!!

Whisper, that's terrific!!! Quitting is one of the hardest things to do, and you owe yourself a HUGE pat on the back!!!!! Geoff, if you've gone this long, try to keep it going.

And, yes, it's amazing how sensitive you become to the smell, and it does smell awesome. When I first quit, I would ask random strangers in parking lots to take a sniff of their cigarettes.

Not like when I first quit, but there are still certain triggers that will give me a nudge.

I used the NYS program that provides you with two weeks worth of free patches, gum or lozenges, then bought more patches. The patch definitely worked for me, although I've heard of people who didn't have a good experience with it. The website also offered tips, and you could call the hotline any time to speak with a counselor if you were having a particularly rough time. They also called to see how I was doing.

We went out to brunch with some of my coworkers a few weeks ago. It was a particularly raw, damp and nasty day. I saw all the smokers huddled outside and was very happy to have quit.

BTW, I should've been on the way to the airport by now, but for some focked up reason my plane's been delayed 3.5 hours now!! WTF!! (before it was just 90 minutes). Maybe I'll get another night after all.....

My mom had tried pathes and gum and cold turkey and everything and she always went back to smoking.

Then she tried Chantix skeptically and she's been smoke free for about a month. She doesn't reek anymore and she mentioned she never knew had bad she smelled. Food tastes better to her now, and so on.

WTF?? A couple minutes ago General was showing no posts newer than January -- and from even November...

It has never been one of my vices but it must be incredibly hard to quit. Just keep thinking of all the money you will save in the long run!

Geoff, thank you. I haven't had the problem in the last couple weeks, but every now and then I'll go to General and find the same thing. I'll close the site, try again (sometimes again). After a couple tries of leaving and coming back or whatever, it's back to normal. I'm glad it's not just me.

I got a flight back tonight -- for "only" $213 more (almost what I paid for the round trip to begin with!) ...guess I can't complain too much since I already changed 2 reservations and they hadn't charged me the $110 "service fee" until now. But yesterday the flight was fully booked, and last night there were seats! I should've waited before scheduling that Thursday flight.

Anyway... one last dip in the hot tub coming up!

they didn't cancel it -- it was just delayed over 3 hrs (and counting for all I knew) so didn't want to take the chance, or have my folks drive at night. The 7:15 left at 10:45
