My mother was a young girl during the WWII and every family with a garden had an Anderson bomb shelter in it. Although she was in Newcastle and not London,famous for the Blitz, the Germans dropped bombs every night because she lived right next to the shipyards which the Germans were trying to destroy. She was 8/9 and still remembers the dread of the siren going!


I can't imagine the fear from that. My uncle was stationed in England during WWII and he met my aunt there. She used to tell me the stories of the blitz (she was in her early 20s then) and how she and her family would take cover in shelters. Just hearing the stories would scare me.
