They are nice pictures Don. I don't believe I've ever seen either of them before (that I remember). Or, is that one picture? confused It is. I don't recognize anyone else in the pictures. The lady with James Dean looks kind of familiar. I'm wondering if she is an actress I might know of. confused

They both hit the scene at about the same time I believe (54/55). Both similar to each other, acting wise. And, without a doubt both define the word "cool". Whoa baby!!! wink Brando from Streetcar and the picture of Dean with a red jacket(from Rebel I believe) Both Nice.

By the way Dean was looking at him....yeah they were "friends" all right.

Which for Dean, wouldn't surprise me at all.

Yes, that's the joke. Dean felt Brando was stealing his thunder and they had a sibling rivalry of sorts. Dean mimicked Brando on many levels ( read the caption) and the two were always trying to "one-up" one another - Dean especially.

I believe that the lady next to Dean was Pier Angeline.

I always felt that Brando was the better actor, i would never picture a rebel James Dean wearing a suit and becoming a father of four in The Godfather.

The joke I was refering to was Dean wanting to fuck Brando.

But that's not the joke. wink This picture is supposed to represent the outright competitiveness that existed between the two (especially w/ Dean), even in social settings like this.

The name was Pier Angeli. She and Dean dated for awhile (and I agree that may be her in the picture).

Angeli wonderfully portrayed Rocky Graziano's wife in "Somebody Up There Likes Me" opposite Paul Newman.

BTW - Is it possible that the woman sitting just to the left of Dean is Rita Moreno?

Another shot of the two of them together:

Is Brando trying to say something there?

I think Pier Angeli is standing next to Dean; I was referring to the woman sitting - I think that's Rita Moreno.

Just did a Google image search, it is definitely her.

I remember her clearly in West Side Story, and um i think she was in Singin In The Rain.

The more I study the picture, the more I think Dean wasn't even looking at Brando. It appears he (Dean) is looking off to the left and not more of a backwards glance to Brando who was standing behind Dean to the left.

I remember Pier Angeli. I don't know her movies that well, but think she was in a religious movie once (Fatima/Song of Bernadette????) Not sure. But yea, that could be her.

As far as Rita Moreno, maybe. How old would Moreno have been in the 50's? I still say the guy who Brando has his arm around is "somebody". Ha ha...the face just looks familiar. grin

Rita Moreno was born in 1931, so she would have been in her 20s.

Here's a photo of her from about the time that the group photo (above) would have been taken. Moreno would have been aged 22 at the time of this magazine cover picture (and about 23 in that group photo):

I loved her in "West Side Story". "America" has to be one of the greatest musical numbers ever filmed.

I agree SB. WSS is one of my favorite musicals. I use to think George Chakaris was so hot, but he sort of dropped out of the scene after that movie. I think that was his only famous role no? Russ Tamblyn too, although he went on to make a few other films, I dare say WWS was both there heyday.

SC, the magazine cover you posted does look very similar to the girl in the picture. Hmmmm If you're right you really have a good eye. eek I'd even say I'd give you a prize, but then again, we'll never know so whew.......no prize for you. lol

God, I loved Pier Angeli in Somebody Up There Likes Me. I wonder if Stallone was inspired by that movie before writing Rocky.

I often wonder what it would be like to have some of past actors performing in current roles.
